The best pub food I’ve had in a long time. I never ever write reviews but I felt compelled to do so after eating here for lunch as it was so lovely and such great value. This place is a real hidden gem and really worth travelling for. The pub is a real proper classic English pub with great beers, a lovely Guinness and absolutely gorgeous food. Landlord is a really lovely guy too. Will definitely be back! Highly reccomend!

We heard the Sunday dinners here were very good (bookable in advance, only), so we booked ahead. We received an email requesting that we confirm our choice of meat, we chose beef, and turned up just ahead of our reservation time. When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly barman (possibly Landlord) who showed us to our table. The pub was all decked out for the England football, and everyone was very nice. There isn't much to it. It's two rooms and a bar, but I don't see that as a negative. My wife chatted to the landlady, and it appears to be a family business, with all the family living on site. Our food arrived and there was a lot of it, for £11.95 each we were very surprised. The drinks were very reasonably priced, too. Once we'd eaten, we both waddled out the door very happy. We will definitely be back at some point. It's a great find and we thoroughly recommend it.

What a lovely warm welcome from a lovely village pub. 3 of us were on a drive today & saw this pub ( dad thought he may have been here before but not for many years). Had lovely lunch stake baguettes & a cheese sandwich in our order came with skinny chips. Couldn’t fault anything. Would recommend.

I love this pub! If you want a traditional pub, with well kept beer, massive portions of pub grub, and friendly locals, this place is for you. If you don’t, there’s another one right around the corner

Christ… what on earth was that? We’ve been visiting a friend near the village and decided to stop off in the chequers. The first red flag was when we were told to avoid drinking their Calsburg?! Dirty glasses, food was oily & off putting, the environment was also off putting. It’s a shame they put no pride in to their inside or outside, it has the potential to be really nice. It’s cheap because everything is low quality & done poorly. Having ‘chequers belly’ is a phase used which makes me wonder how sanitary things are in the food making area. To top it off, I'm certain they are serving underage guests, no more than 16 I would say.
