Spacious & well signposted; many paths to many locations, lots of open air sections and equally under tree canopy too. Fantastic for foraging with curiosity & wonder. Dog, children, runner, walking friendly. Many sectors given wooden jetties for safer footings.
Nice place for a walk, especially with dogs
A nice nature reserve with a variety of different habitats. The dog walkers were very respectful as well. Unfortunately, it's located very close to some construction works right now, but otherwise a lovely place to walk your dog. The area is clearly well-managed, with little to no litter, and logs from nearby trees line the pathway in places to encourage sticking to it.
Bedelands Nature Reserve is a real hidden gem tucked away on the northern edge of Burgess Hill. The reserve offers a peaceful escape into nature, with a wonderful mix of meadows, ancient woodlands, hedgerows, and ponds. It feels surprisingly wild for somewhere so close to the town, making it a perfect spot for anyone looking to unwind, walk, or enjoy a bit of wildlife watching. The meadows are particularly beautiful in summer, when wildflowers are in full bloom and butterflies are everywhere. What makes Bedelands special is its rich biodiversity. If you are lucky you may spot woodpeckers, owls, and a variety of songbirds, while the ponds and streams are home to frogs, newts, and dragonflies. The management of the reserve has struck a good balance between conservation and accessibility, with footpaths that are well maintained but not overly formal, keeping the natural feel intact. It’s not a place for big facilities – you won’t find cafés, toilets, or playgrounds here – but that’s part of the appeal. It’s a nature reserve first and foremost, designed to be enjoyed quietly and respectfully. Parking nearby is limited, so it’s often best accessed on foot or by bike if you live locally.
An amazing unexpected reserve on the edge of busy Burgess Hill. Fascinating history recorded on information boards at points of interest throughout the ancient woodland. Birdsong and wild flowers in abundance. Easy free parking, free entry, dogs allowed. Definitely a must visit.
Lovely walk, so many doggos and places to sniff. No dogs? No problem, beautiful wooded walks, fileds and so much nature. Bedelands is a hidden gem.
Very large forest good for local residents to walk very green but if you new your lost there is not much directon sign to follows but if you are using Google map help also local residents are very helpful
Can do as long or short a walk as you want here. There are maps sign posted around marking your current location so it makes it very easy to find your way round. There are board walks over marsh areas and the waterfall is beautiful. The dogs enjoyed a dip in the lake. Car park was free but fairly small so was full by the time we got back to the car. You need to walk through the park to get to the nature reserve walk so a great spot for a picnic or field games before or after your walk.
Good place for either short or extended walks. Very helpful maps located around, so it’s easy to find your way around. The terrain can be very muddy for a number of days after heavy rain, so appropriate footwear needed. The Ouse Valley viaduct is not that far away and well worth a visit while in the area.
