Boughton Hall began its life in the early 1500s under Sir Edward Montagu, first Baron Montagu of Boughton, and has stubbornly clung to Montagu lineage ever since. Its walls have witnessed five centuries of aristocratic daydreams, artistic acquisitions, and the occasional renovation that mercifully spared the Great Hall. The Great Hall Tour allows you to self-navigate ten sumptuous rooms peppered with roving guides. Boughton Hallβs public season reads like a blink-and-youβll-miss-it teaser: three consecutive days at Easter, similarly brief slots in May, and five days each week throughout August, with occasional garden-only interludes. Outside these curated windows, the estate enjoys total solitudeβideal if youβre into imagining what youβre missing. If you relish feasting your eyes on lavish ceilings, antique tapestries, and the faint echo of noble footstepsβprovided you can sync your diary to a handful of datesβBoughton Hall is your sort of challenge. Just remember: the Great Hall waits for no one, and its doors open only when youβve already made other plans.

Fantastic gardens and a unique view of old English manor interiors. If you enjoy gardens I recommend visiting a garden shed library with seats, fresh flowers, photos of their plants on the walls and a great selection of English gardening books. Swan pond was beautiful as well. Keep in mind there is not an easy access bridge on the right side of the lake, so make time for walking.

Really worth the visit. Personally I'd never heard of it before, but the house was huge as were the grounds. These were laid out in a very interesting way with the next different section discovered through the various hedges. The garden "sheds" were a fascinating! The house itself is a gem, made all the more interesting as it is still used as a family home. A special thanks to the many room guides who were lovely and knowledgeable without being pushy. A really good day out.

Not open often so this opportunity was amazing, we had two guided tours by two very experienced guides, the tea room was awesome with great slices of delicious cakes. The gardens were immense beautiful settings with some unique features. In the house were some amazing pictures and decorative items each with a story to tell. We were made aware that this is still a family home and some items were therefore personal.

A real gem of a place. I've lived in this part of Northamptonshire all my life, knew it was there...but never visited. The gardens are extensive and beautiful. We had a picnic under an ancient-looking tree with views of the house and lake. A special day out. We'll definitely visit again and I'd highly recommend.

If you are historic house members a free flow visit is free check website for openingbhours as very limited. volunteers friendly and knowledgeable. No photos allowed in the building. There is a great selection of van dyke drawings on site , also the walled garden and grounds are wonderful. The cafe has home made cakes and is well priced. There is a shop, bookshop and toilets on site. Recommended

This was our second visit to Boughton House and we loved every second of it. Their snowdrop weekend was brilliant - the snowdrops amongst other flowers looked beautiful, and the grounds are so well kept. We could easily have spent hours walking around as the grounds are VAST! The House itself wasn't open but if it's anything like the grounds, then I'm sure it's beautifully kept as well. There is a lovely gift shop on-site with very friendly staff, a reasonably priced tearoom, clean toilets and plenty of free parking on-site as well. We can't wait for our return visit!

Beautiful gardens, lovely tea shop. 4 stars only because I can't comment on house yet. Nice chilled out wander round.

This was our second visit and certainly won't be the last! We booked for the 'snowdrop walk' that cost Β£12 for four of us, which isn't bad at all. It helped that the weather was amazing that day, but the grounds were stunning. So many different areas to explore and beautiful flowers to see. Sadly we didn't have time to go to the tearoom (which looks great, set in the old stables) but we checked out the gift shop. The toilets are clean and well kept too. All in all, a great afternoon out. Hoping to go back soon when the house is open.
