My daughter has been with Top Hat since she was 4 years old. Fast forward 7 years she does 10 classes a week and competes in the festival team. She absolutely loves it and has had some amazing opportunities and experiences. All the staff are amazing and very professional. 100% recommend this Dance school.
Our daughter Ella joined Top Hat Musical Theatre School in November last year after attending other theatre schools, and from the very first trial session we all knew this was the right place for her. The level of professionalism, dedication and genuine care from the teachers is absolutely outstanding. Since joining, Ella has been encouraged and supported in the most wonderful way. She has been put forward for drama exams and singing festivals and given opportunities to perform at events such as Derngate theatre , which has boosted her confidence and given her valuable experience for the future. The growth we’ve seen in Ella in such a short space of time has been incredible — not only in her talent, but in her confidence and love for performing. We are so grateful to the whole team at Top Hat for creating such a positive, inspiring and professional environment. We truly couldn’t recommend this school highly enough.
My daughter has been attending this dance school for several years- the staff have always been incredibly supportive and encouraging of her other interests too. My daughter has grown in confidence and ability since coming here and is very happy here.
My daughter Lola has been attending classes at Tophat theatre school since 2017. If she could move in there I think she would. Tophat has become a second home to her and Miss Julie and all the teachers have played a vital role in nurturing her talent. Lola would like to persue a career in performing arts but even if she didn’t Julie and the team have played a significant role in shaping her life skills, confidence and character. If you are looking for somewhere to for your child to flourish then look no further.
I would not recommend this school at all and if I could give zero stars I would. I had many conversations with Julie, the principal, back in June regarding lessons at the school as my daughter loves to perform and wanted to do some more classes. Julie knew my daughter did a dance class and acro class at another dance school and not once did she say they have a policy that they can’t attend another school. I signed my daughter up for a few trial sessions and the only one she loved was the musical theatre one - she tried the street class and the teacher took no time in going over the steps (she does another class class at another school and is very use to picking up choreography- so it wasn’t her ability stopping her ) - something that a friend’s daughter who was trying out had also said! After the trials I spoke to Julie and said she loved the musical theatre class but not the dance class as she preferred the dance class at her other school - again no mention of their policy of not allowing people who take classes elsewhere. I also talked to her about the adult tap dance class - she knew I danced at another school as well - but she was come along I would be more than welcome! - again no mention that I wouldn’t be able to do due to their policy. I signed my daughter up and she joined the musical theatre class. After purchasing the required school t-shirt and doing a few lessons Julie told me my daughter couldn’t attend as she danced at another school. I was really surprised by this as other children I knew were at the school and also attended other schools. Bearing in mind my daughter was not allowed to do acro at this school as they have to do other dance classes at the school (which my daughter can’t do due to other sports and commitments) and the dance class she does was commercial which they don’t offer - they do street. So despite not being able to offer the same classes to my daughter she is not allowed to do the musical theatre class. I said I had bought the tshirt which she said she would refund the money - no refund has been forthcoming despite several requests - it is not the money it is the principle. No where does it state on their website of their policy, I was not aware of their policy (or otherwise I would not of signed her up) - Julie had plenty of opportunities to tell me of their policy. Other parents that I’ve spoken to are not aware of their policy. I have told Julie that you get errors if you try to look at some links - which possibly is where it states it! Other children that I know attend other schools as well - so if it’s their policy why do they allow others to attend multiple schools! I could understand if a child is doing the same class at different schools where there could be a conflict of interest if they are competing and they can’t compete for both schools but that isn’t the case in my daughter’s case. There are other dance, musical theatre schools within Northampton that are much more welcoming than this one and celebrate a child’s desire to dance and perform - join those and avoid this one.
My daughters have been at Top Hat for over 2 years now and LOVE it. They have grown in skill and confidence and it's been a pleasure to watch. I have found the staff friendly, premises spotless, food lovely and the whole experience very professional. Would and have recommend to friends.
Our daughter has been attending Top Hat for little over two years and what an amazing two years it has been. The studios are wonderful, the teachers are incredible and the students are wonderfully talented! From dance and drama exams, being part of the festival team and gaining more confidence with her discipline…Top Hat is incredible!
Simply the best. My daughter used to use another dance school nearby and we always felt like outsiders. At top hat, she has come on leaps and bounds and everyone is like a part of one big family. The teachers are all fantastic, and the cafe is pretty damn good too!
My children have been at Top Hat for about 3 years now and they love it...I love it! With a variety of dance disciplines and trained, experienced teachers there really is something for everyone. It's inclusive and a happy and productive place to be, with lots of opportunities should you want them.
Truly lovely dance school. Run so that everyone is made to feel like part of the Top Hat family. It is one of my little girl's happy places. Staff are lovely and helpful, and made me a non dance mum feel like I could do this! The kids are all supportive of one another, a trait that is fostered in them from the top down. I would truly recommend this place, your kids will love you for it!
