Delicious piece of battered Cod and chips on a Friday evening. Had to wait 10 minutes for it to be cooked, but well worth the wait.

I hadn't been here for over 10 years and randomly decided to go last week. I have also been back since! The fish and chips was freshly cooked, it tasted so good. Lovely staff and very efficient. I would call beforehand if you don't want to wait for your food to be ready. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be my go to from now on!

Basing this review on three recent collection takeaways. The fish shop is very quiet, never more than one other customer, so everything is freshly fried. The oriental lady batters the fish in front of you and puts chips on to fry. The result is fish and chips as good as you could hope for, the fish is tender and moist without any greasy, sticky aftertaste, the chips the best fish-shop chips I've eaten, crisp and dry. 555 is the last fish & chip shop on the Oxford Rd, been going with changing owners for over 50 years, since when folks queued outside the door on Friday night ...

Amazing fish and chips, really glad I discovered this place. The food was up there with the very best I have ever had out of the countless chip shops I have tried up and down the country. Got to be the best in Reading and probably Berkshire too. Expertly cooked to order with quality ingredients getting every aspect just right. Light, crisp batter with tender fresh cod inside with the best chips I have had in a very long time - chunky thick cut, nice golden brown colour, crisp on the outside and soft potato inside. Both the fish and the chips were well drained and not greasy. Cod, small chips and mushy peas cost Β£11.10. Not the cheapest but worth every penny and nice large portion sizes. The food was well packed in a cardboard box so stayed warm and didnβt go soggy at all before eating. The shop looks a bit run down on the outside and isnβt in the nicest part of town, but donβt let that put you off, itβs very clean inside and has 5/5 food hygiene rating. Friendly service and the usual menu choices. Highly recommended, I will definitely be back. Cannot fault them, wish it was my local!

Well ideally I would of liked my sausage being the colour of the chips (brown) & the chips being the colour of the sausage Light brown) I got... Sausage was ok but chips went in the bin... Lady behind counter was very nice and couldn't be faulted

I went in there for a steak pie once and it smelt horrible. After that, I returned it and got a refund and another pie. The new was stale and clearly old. I didnβt bother going back. I was surprised as it was usually very good the previous times I went there.

You have to normally wait for food to be cooked as the shop is not very busy due to so many takeaway shops along the Oxford Road. They have a 4 food rating.

Fantastic chips, crunchy on the outside, fluffy in the middle, and great batter. Excellent service.
