Chilled setting, great garden with play area and amazing restored vintage Massey Ferguson. Plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly. Bar and fireplace. Varied and well thought out menu. Delicious food and good value. Great beer wine and drink selection. One of my favourite places
We went for a Sunday roast at The Pack Horse Pub. We were seated quickly, and the food arrived promptly after ordering. To start, we shared the garlic Camembert. It was just okay…not particularly garlicky and quite expensive for what it was (£16 for a small cheese and two rolls cut in half). There was a lot of leftover cheese, which felt a bit wasteful. The roast, however, was excellent! We both ordered the beef and slow-cooked pork belly, and were happy to see it came with a little crackling too. Everything was well-cooked and full of flavour. We also added pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese, both great additions to the roast. The cauliflower was a little light on the cheese but still tasty. Overall, we’d rate this a solid 8.5/10 on the roast scale and are looking forward to returning to try more from their menu!
Really great location, great service and food. Especially love the garden during sunny days. Kids and dog friendly. It’s a must go for a readinger! Lots of parking and just a few minutes from caveraham.
Easily one of my favourite restaurants in the UK. The combination of low ceiling, exposed beams showing the age of the building, and warm lighting, make the atmosphere very welcoming and cozy. Not to mention the fireplace and that it is dog friendly. They are very good for Gluten free people, as all of the dishes have their respective allergens listed. You can also see the calorie count. I've been there a couple of times and all the food ordered every time is delicious. I would strongly recommend going for a dessert as well with the chocolate foundaint!
Hey! This place is nicely & warmly welcoming. The food is cooked right (beef) and portions are quite large balancing the price. The staff is polite and wouldn’t rush you, altogether in a family atmosphere. Large car park, large beer garden in the back along with some tables out in the front, large tables, large and clean toilets - so overall all quite ‘largely’ impressed. Give it a try!
Lots of parking at the The packhorse pub I had the Cod and chips with mushy peas, and the Nut Roast was a good meal as well price was affordable and they have a loyalty card for your next visit, over all will return.
The second pub we've visited from this chain and both were brilliant. Attentive and helpful staff. Good menu with loads of good GF options. Food is fantastic, absolutely delicious... Highly recommended. Would love to see some more local beers.
What a lovely restaurant! The building is an architectural gem, well maintained with the old interior, lower ceiling, wooden floors, fire place and robust furniture. There is a beaufitul garden with many tables and both garden and pub is well maintained. Warm and welcome staff. The food was delicous and portion was very decent. I come here for a Sunday Roast it is one of the best I have ever had. As always you can choose which meat you want and this come with roasted potatos and carrots, steam green vegetable mix(beans, leek and cabbage), creamy celeriac puree, yorkshire pudding and gravy. I can highly recommend this place!
The best steak and ale pie ever - a real whole pie with proper pastry all around, not the often served stew with a blob of puff pastry on top. There was a great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and a log fire. Finally a warm pub! Would definitely recommend - oh and the Guinness was great!
Just moved in this area and discovered this beautiful place we visited yesterday. Went there with kids and was a very kid friendly place… staff was very kind and the place was nice. Ceiling was low and creates a very rustic feeling… apparently was built in 1600 sometime… though maintained well… Toilets were very old fashioned… but very clean! Food was nice and tasty… we just ordered appetisers yesterday… but next time we will perhaps try a few other things as well. Went there after sunset so couldn’t see much of outside.
