I had been wanting to visit Workhouse Coffee for a long time, and today I finally had the chance. It’s a small space, but very warm, inviting, and full of character. The staff were exceptional, especially the young lady who took my order with great professionalism and kindness. The coffee was outstanding, rich and beautifully balanced. I also ordered a cake—unfortunately I don’t know its name—but it was incredibly delicious and a perfect match with the coffee. Overall, my experience was thoroughly satisfying, and I would definitely return. This place is truly worth a visit. A warm welcome awaits in the Workhouse Coffee shop. They also make superb drinks, especially their oat milk flat white. The cakes are pretty good too.

Great, small place with an awesome selection. Really makes you appreciate the little things. Lovely staff and really friendly atmosphere as well , a great change from the usual chains in town and not far to walk

Lovely independent coffee shop, nicely designed inside for seating and watching people go by. Food looks nice (didn't have any) and coffee was excellent. Staff inside (probably owner, didn't ask) was super attentive and talkative, made to feel welcome. Nice to have at this end of Reading. 4 star only because they charge the 50p "tax" on those who don't consume dairy (I had oat today). If they stop the charge it's an easy 5 star. And until they do I'm bound by my own rules to not visit again!

I absolutely love visiting your coffee shop! The warm and inviting atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to start our day. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable, creating the most delightful coffee drinks. I can’t wait to come back for more delicious coffee and a relaxing time. Definitely better quality and taste of coffee than in other coffee shops like Costa … etc. Keep up the fantastic work!

Excellent Barista’s with a good memory for a face and their favorite coffee, along with a tempting choice of cakes, sausage rolls and quiche.

What’s happened to this place?! I usually make my own coffee at home but with my machine broken I’ve taken to exploring what’s on the high st and workhouse has taken a rapid decline over the past couple of months. Firstly they don’t have a house blend so I went in one day and the coffee tasted poor - when I questioned if they’d changed their coffee I was told ‘oh we change it all the time’ Whatever happened to brand Consistency? Their A* barista seems to be MIA so it’s pot luck if the person who serves you is a trained barista or not? I’ve tried several coffees- latte/flat whites etc in hope of getting something decent? The latest coffee reminded me of when my Gran used to boil milk in a pan (& burn it) and then put a tiny drop of coffee in and it doesn’t taste of much. Or the bubble fountain where if you like foam (not the creamy thick stuff) then you’ll love this! It’s bloody freezing in there too so I’ve never sat inside and opening times are as good as anyone’s guess because there’s certainly no consistency there either nor does it align with the times advertised on Google? This obviously all comes down to the owner to rectify. Oxford Rd seems neglected whereas I can imagine that the central shop takes priority which is a shame because not everyone on Oxford road is a dunce when it comes to coffee. Unfortunately I won’t be parting with anymore experimental pennies in hope that one day I will get what I expect from this place which is a quality coffee from what should be an established independent coffee house.

This place is a real gem! We travelled the world and had loads and different types of coffee and I must admit, Kirsty makes one of the best coffees out there! She’s a real pro passionate about what she does and also very friendly and nice! Oat milk cappuccino was really best I ever had!

It's quite cold (on an April morning), and theres not a lot of electrical sockets. But this place is all about the coffee, which is great! The music is not too overpowering. The food is good. Tucked away in Reading, not far from the station, this is an excellent find.
