extremely disappointing dining experience at The Bridge, Duffield on Sunday, 9th November 2025. What was intended to be an enjoyable birthday meal for myself and my family instead turned into a frustrating and poorly managed experience that fell far below the standards expected of a Marston’s establishment. The service and overall experience can best be described as disorganised, dismissive, and lacking in basic hospitality. The sequence of events was as follows: β€’ 14:40 – We arrived and waited approximately 10 minutes to be seated, during which staff passed us several times without greeting or acknowledgment. β€’ 14:50 – We were finally seated, and our food and drink order was taken at 14:55. We were told that cutlery would be brought β€œin a few moments.” β€’ After some time, we enquired about our drinks, only to be told staff would β€œcheck on them.” β€’ 15:25 – Drinks finally arrived 30 minutes after ordering, with no apology. β€’ 15:35 – A staff member approached our table to ask whether we were still waiting for our food β€” even though it was obvious that nothing had arrived. At this point, I requested to speak to the manager, but was told the manager was β€œbusy in the kitchen.” I never saw or spoke to the manager at any point during our visit. β€’ 15:55 – The deputy manager informed us that no turkey was available, meaning there was no white meat option. We were then told that both sea bass and the 10oz bacon chop were also unavailable. When we raised our frustration, the deputy manager brushed off the situation with the comment: β€œDon’t worry guys, you’ll get a heavy discount at the end.” This casual and dismissive attitude was particularly disappointing, especially as this was meant to be a celebratory meal. β€’ 16:10 – The first meals began to arrive, with multiple issues: β€’ One child’s meal was missing a Yorkshire pudding. β€’ Another child’s meal was missing bacon. β€’ No cutlery had been provided, and when requested, a staff member retrieved some and then walked away without returning to our table. β€’ 16:17 – The final adult meal (a substitute beef roast) had still not arrived. When it did, parsnips were missing, though these were later brought over. β€’ Additionally, one of the four adult meals was served with a Yorkshire pudding that was still frozen in the middle, which is entirely unacceptable. β€’ The deputy manager later confirmed that the full cost of food and drink would be waived, describing the incident as β€œa one-off” and β€œnot normally like this.” β€’ No dessert menu was offered, and at 16:45, a female supervisor who had just started her shift came over to apologise sincerely for the experience. It was also apparent that these issues were not unique to our table. Throughout our visit, we overheard at least five other tables complaining about waiting over 30 minutes for food, missing items, and dishes being served at different times. This clearly indicates wider operational and management problems rather than an isolated incident. What should have been a pleasant birthday celebration turned into a stressful and disappointing afternoon. Despite spending over two hours at the venue, we left without dessert and with a lasting sense of frustration. While the deputy manager eventually waived the bill, the manner in which the situation was handled β€” coupled with poor communication, lack of accountability, and dismissive remarks β€” was simply unacceptable. -------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: A Much-Improved Visit – Excellent Service and Food We returned to The Bridge, Duffield on 30th November 2025 at 3:00 pm, after the manager (Connor) kindly invited us back for a complimentary three-course meal for six. I’m pleased to say that this second visit was a complete turnaround and fully restored our confidence in the pub. Excellent service, food quality and portions I would now have no hesitation in returning in the future. Credit to Connor and the team for taking feedback seriously and ensuring the experience was put right β€” it made a genuine difference.

A lovely, relaxing Sunday lunch. We booked a table as we didn't want to turn up and find it full. I'd recommend booking ahead as it was very busy. The food and drinks were superb. Nicely presented and delicious. The atmosphere really added to the experience as it was relaxed but with the quiet buzz of conversation. When paying for our meal, Jack ensured we had had an enjoyable visit.

Great pub with a beer garden. More than sufficient seating available both indoors and outdoors. The food is delicious and good selection of beer too. Parking is not an issue as they have their own free parking. Unsure of the date, but they do regular quiz nights as well.

Myself and friends visited for my birthday, we were greeted quickly and seated in the restaurant area, service was excellent, there was a delay on mains because they were so busy but drinks and starters came with little delay. The staff were lovely and so accommodating, food was excellent, highly recommend and will definitely be returning

Excellent location with splendid food and great service!! Celebrated my 19th birthday here. Upon request we were given the best spot of the pub. The restaurant has the classic pub vibe and was decked up well for Christmas. The ambience is great! The staff is kind and lovely. The service was quick as well. They have a varied menu with a variety of flavours - pub classics, burgers, steak etc. We ordered a Korean Style BBQ Cauliflower Wings, Veggie Burger, Bourbon-Glazed Chicken and Chicken & Chorizo Kebab all of which was extremely delicious. The prices are decent as well for the quality of food and service provided. Would definitely recommend this place.

Enjoyed a Saturday lunch here. The staff are attentive and courteous and there is a good choice of food and drink available. We had a main meal and a pudding with drinks from the bar. The food was hot and well presented, it was a really enjoyable experience, we will visit again.
