Favourite pub to visit after a Sunday walk around Calke Abbey. Always a fire in the grate on cold or chilly days. Dogs very welcome.
What a wonderful place for me to enjoy my very 1st pint during my very 1st visit to England!! If you're looking for an AUTHENTIC pub in the UK with all the trimmings (good beer, spirits, atmosphere, and most importantly good people!) then this is the place you must see. I was sad to leave to come back to the states because I loved this place so much

Such a lovely pub and one of my personal favourites. The landlord is great and the beer is top quality. Love popping in here before I got and watch the football on a Saturday.

Myself wife and son stayed in Ticknall at the National Trust cottage at Calke Abbey entrance gate for a week. We visited the Chequers Inn many times during the week as it was only a few minutes away. The landlord and staff were very friendly and welcoming every time and they were very dog friendly as well. Well worth a visit.
