Visited the Belper brunch on the 10th of September 2025 and was very kindly assisted by Connor in the yard to cut up some awkward plywood boards, nothing was too much trouble. He was able skilful and very personable. If this is an example of the employees and I know it is it’s a great place to come and shop.
Went down to pick up a few bags of tarmac, got my ticket after payment, not a thank you or acknowledgement! Couldn't find any yard men, so pulled my truck towards the sheds to load, a guy came out kicking off cause I'd pulled into the yard, absolute idiot giving it the big one. Wished I'd knocked him out in insight.
Enter at your own risk, forklift truck hit my vw amarok and these guys stuck together and denied the damage and wouldn't release the cctv. My insurance reported with a 5yr tag now and £650 out of pocket.
Ouch, that was pricey! I've just visited Buildbase in Belper (4th May 23) to buy some fittings for rainwater guttering. Nothing really complicated, just some poly 92.5 degree bends and some pipe brackets. Thought it was a bit pricey when I paid, so decided to check when I got home. It was four times more expensive (before VAT) at Buildbase than buying through a specialist drainage supplier. The online Buildbase price was eight times more expensive than the specialist. I note that Buildbase is now part of the Huw Gray group. I wonder if the high prices are linked to that. Needless to say I'll not be using them in the future except as a last resort.
Today is my first encounter with this company and I'll ensure it'll be my last! This weekend (19-20 Mar 22), a friend is going to be laying a concrete base at my property for the siting of a new garden shed. He ordered the materials from this company and informed me they would be delivered between 11-12.00 today (15 Mar 22). I went out of my front door at 09.00 to find the materials had been left on my drive and blocking access for my car to and from my garage. A passing neighbour told me it had been delivered approximately an hour earlier, i.e. around 08.00. Nobody called, knocked at the door or rang the bell to let me know. In other words, someone from this company turned up at least three hours ahead of the agreed time, simply dumped the materials and drove off. Purely by luck, my car was parked on the road as I'd used it earlier but it means it will have to stay parked there until the materials have been moved. To say I'm displeased is a vast understatement.
Advised by our electrician - Andrew to visit here to buy our armoured cable. Called Saturday morning, spoke to a very helpful member of staff who answered all our questions. Tom Lomax was very informative and smiley. Will definitely return to purchase our garden lights.
As a regular customer at buildbase for many years, I would like to commend a member of staff, Matt Waldron, for his exemplary customer service. Nothing is ever to much trouble he is always helpful, willing to go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.
Ordered & paid for materials on Friday to be delivered 3 miles away on Monday. On Thursday discovered nothing had been delivered. Nobody from build base bothered to let us know. Eventually delivered Friday at 4pm. The builder lost a days work. Surely it's not to much to expect a phone call to let us know & apologise. Won't be using them again.
