Having had concerns for some dark (what I thought were moles) on my back addressed by my GP I was told that they were Seborrheic Keratosis. The NHS considers these cosmetic so will not refer further treatment (apart from in exceptional circumstances). I was therefore left wondering what to do? I contacted Hayley at Eccleshall Dermatology Clinic and had a consult. She explained what my treatment options were with the Keratosis. That some of the large ones would need a local anaesthetic to numb the pain, before being fairly painlessly removed. In the end I had three sessions with Hayley and she removed most of the marks from my back (there were quite a lot). Some of them were a little sore to be removed, however she kept the pain down to a minimum - and more importantly kept me chatting so I was suitably distracted. She advised on ongoing treatment and how to keep the keratosis at bay, and also that they are associated with aging. A month later and I am pleased. There are minimal scars, my back is clearer and its given me renewed confidence to be able to do more fitness activities including swimming and running.

After driving 45 minutes in the snow, and being unable to park, I arrived for my appointment 10 minutes late to be told that they could not carry out the procedure due to not having time. At no point was I made aware over the phone, or via email that they only allow 30 minutes for a slot and I was given no prior information regarding this upon booking the appointment. Had I been made aware that the appointment had been squeezed in and that the procedure could not go ahead if arriving late, I would have left extra time to ensure I did not get stuck in traffic due to the snow. When I asked how long the procedure takes I was told 10 minutes, but the appointment was still refused despite it still being within the 30 minute slot. Generally, I would expect a phone call from the clinic to double check whether the appointment was still going ahead however, upon stating this once I arrived at the clinic I was met with rudeness and was told I was unable to wait to see if the next client would arrive on time due to them being a regular. This left me questioning why you would not allow a grace period either side of an appointment in events such as these, especially during bad weather. May I suggest that if people’s business is important to you, that you account for the fact that the clinic is not in the most convenient location and there may be unforeseen circumstances (such as the snow) that may mean people may not arrive exactly on time.
