I have recently registered with Vernon Street Surgery, and had attended my 1st appointment this week, I had a phone call on Saturday morning from a very pleasant lady saying that they had a cancellation on Monday and would I like to attend the appointment as they were aware I needed to see a a GP ( I had spoken with the Pharmacist the day before). I was met with a smile from the receptionist as soon as I walked in even though he was on a call with a patient. My appointment (which was on time I might add) was with Dr McKay, what a fabulous doctor, so approachable, empathetic and warm and I felt listened to, I was very reluctant to change practice, but I am delighted that I did!

I have been with this pracise 22 years. I have rarely struggled to get a same day appointment or at the very least a phone consultation when I've needed it. They have helped me navigate a myriad of medical issues in that time both mental and physical. They have an easy to use website & very helpful behind the scenes staff. The GPs throughout that time have always listened to my concerns and I've never come away feeling like I've wasted their time or they've fobbed me off. I would thoroughly reccomend them.

Absolute joke, you can't get an appointment here anymore. I called 2 weeks ago dead in 8.30am waited 50 mins to speak to someone to be told to call back tomarrow (which i couldn't as only get Wednesdays and Sundays off to be able to go) told to go to walk in which was inappropriate as I need to see podiatry and a hand doctor. Called 2 weeks later again at 8.35 am call doesn't even go into a queue as full answerphone says call 999 for emergencies or call back later which I fully know there won't be any appointments again. Last time I called in December it was a weeks wait , again had to go private and see a chiropractor as couldn't wait due to the pain.

Yet to receive any help of significance other than go to A&E, I'm having health problems at the moment and there's been a lead up to this and whatever is wrong with me could have been prevented. The nurse on my first appointment was rude and dismissive despite me pouring my heart out and near begging for help as something isn't right. Called today for another appointment as my last one was several months back and im still having the same issue. I'd like this surgery to earn their income or funding otherwise it's pointless so far

Disgusting service, just spoke to a receptionist called Jo. They want to know why you’re calling but have absolutely no idea the process of what needs to be done as to why you’re calling…doesn’t make sense? They have told me I need to go to the Florence Nightingale - I haven’t lived in Derby that long so I asked for the address. I got told I don’t know look it up online. Absolutely zero care for their patients and Jo was short and rude to me all the way through the call. This particular receptionist needs a lot of training or sacking!

Thank you for the help and support I've received from staff and doctors. I've managed to get through and have a call back after waiting in a phone queue for aprox 20 mins which is way better than I've had in years at St Thomas Road Surgery. I'm very glad i switched to the Vernon Street Surgery. Thank you for your hard work in these difficult times with huge pressures on every Healthcare setting.

Awful. Wasted lots of my time by sending me to an emergency walk in centre that couldn't help me and when I did finally get a face to face appointment, when I showed up at the surgery I was informed by reception that there had been a mistake and it would be a video consultation as the doctor was working from home but I could dial in from the waiting room ??? Patient confidentiality ??

One doctor was helpful however i was lacking support or help, none of them took my seriously and said i was making Topical steroid withdrawal up. They dont know anything about skin / tsw so dont bother if you suffer with these

From my experience Dr wood is not a very nice man. The only nice guy in there is Dr McKay. I recommend going else where. Less calls for the rude reception staff to deal with which may improve the overall service. The managers are a nightmare to. Avoid this surgery try to be happy the best doctors are Doctor Diet, Doctor Quiet and Doctor Merryman. Remember that read the book. And know that the majority of doctors at this surgery are too opinionated.
