We had a fabulous two-night stay with our Labrador, George. As soon as we arrived, our welcome set the tone for a great stay. The hotel team were super friendly to us and to George, the room was quirky and gorgeous and the full English breakfast was a delight. We can't recommend this place highly enough. Thank you so much for looking after us.

My wife and I have just spent a one night stay here at the black hole bed and breakfast. We'd like to say what a great find and a great location to the city centre. Very friendly staff and a great full English breakfast. The jail theme was very fun and unique and the rooms were very clean with a comfy bed. Would definitely recommend and will book again when next in Winchester.

Rooms - spacious, nice decor - especially the room door using the clink London prison doors, clean and under floor heating, great shower. Service - Emma is a lovely host, friendly, talkative and relaxed, she makes an amazing English Breakfast - definitely one of the best I've had. Serve yourself coffee, latte's at anytime 24/7 from their machine in the dining area (it was really good coffee too) water present to take to your room too. Location - can't really ask for much more, a 4min walk from Chesil carpark (£7.80 a day) and less than a 10min walk to the city center (10min to Nandos!), basically everything is within walking distance including Winchester Cathedral which is a 7min walk. The only place I would stay if I visited Winchester again. Definitely at least 4 star hotel worthy.

Great stay at The Black Hole! Comfortable & clean rooms, bathroom was clean and amenities were lovely (size is a bit small but can work around it) - receptionist was friendly and informative, and the breakfast was great. 24hr coffee, tea & water facilities in the breakfast area and the location was perfect, just off the high street and close to Chesil St car park! Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend for the price!

Very well situated B&B near the centre of Winchester. A small walk along the stream leads you to the city centre. The imaginative style of the B&B is a jail. The rooms are identified as cells. Don't let that put you off. The rooms are well present, clean and tidy. Downstairs is a breakfast room, that provides drinks throughout the day. Very friendly staff. Great B&B to take advantage of all that Winchester has to offer.

I loved this B&B. Spent two nights at The Black Hole (don't let the name put you off!). Superb location beautiful walk into Winchester town (thanks to information provided by our super hostess!) The whole place was really quirky, especially the rooms. Breakfast was great. If you are bored with usual B&B's and are looking for something a little different this place is a must!!

Interesting concept flawed by execution. The idea of sleeping in rooms behind prison doors with steam punk lighting and scaffolding for a wardrobe had some appeal. Refectory tables for breakfast with tin plates likewise. Let down by overly warm rooms where opening the window reveals a footpath a few feet away and a noisy road. So sleep was a bit challenging. Was looking forward to a nice shower only to find there wasn't any hot water. Breakfast was OK.

The Black Hole was our second choice due to location and cost. We were giving cell 10, it had the most gorgeous high vaulted ceilings, was a good size but had no shower (only a roll top bath in the room) and the toilet was tiny. The roof terrace was right outside the door and gave beautiful views over Winchester. No air conditioning but there was a very good fan. Breakfast was very good, Emma and team did a fantastic job welcoming us.
