Last year I started attending the RunStrong Community Runs organised through husband-and-wife team Matt and Wendy Hooper, who are both lovely and supportive. Relatively new to the area I was looking to get back into my running and to keep me motivated around all my other commitments without feeling the guilt of having to turn up every week. The group was friendly and supportive and through becoming part of that group I decided that I would take up the offered opportunity to work towards a half marathon with the support of Matt who designed and supported me with a programme linked to my newly purchased Garmin as well as an opportunity to meet for one to ones to look at areas that I particularly needed to support with around my approach to running. I started in February and did a range of running activities including ensuring I warmed up properly, dynamic warmups, easy runs to long endurance runs and speed intervals, body weight muscular endurance exercises and even a couple of races designed at a certain pace to aid my training working towards my end goal of running the Worthing Half Marathon on Sunday 4th May. Throughout the three months I learnt a lot including the importance of listening and preparing my body properly especially as I get older, that training didnβt always need to be painful and something you just need to get out of the way and to be kind to myself in comparing myself to that runner I was in my 20βs and 30βs On the half marathon I actually enjoyed the run and it was the calmest and most confident I had felt for a long time knowing I could make the distance and that I understood the best pace for me. I would have been happy with coming back to doing it under 2 hours but I was over the moon with my sub 1hr 50 and feel confident that I can now build on that for future runs whilst continuing being part of the Run Strong Community and really would recommend to anyone thinking of coming back into running.

I am so thankful to Matt and The Run Strong Project for supporting me through the London Marathon, everything you could possibly need from a coaching program and an amazing running community. Matt's program was perfectly personalised to my ability level and target goal, I was able to not only complete London Marathon but smash my PB by 10 minutes! So much more than just a running program, with strength workouts, cross training and soft tissue therapy all included in the plan, and adjusted as needed during training to support the inevitable injuries which will occur when taking on the mammoth task of a marathon, the 1-2-1 sessions are flexible to your needs and Matt will make you feel 100% supported throughout. I have been introduced to an amazing running community, the Run Strong group sessions keep you motivated to stick to your training schedule, always some friendly company on the longer training runs, but if you're just starting out as new runner then all abilities are catered for, I can highly recommend The Run Strong Project to runners of all abilities. Looking forward to planning my next challenge with you!

Matt is an excellent sport therapist in my local area. I had a fantastic sport massage on my lower body after the London Marathon event. He talked me through thoroughly about my post race dietary requirement and what a good recovery plan should be. Matt also gave me invaluable advice two weeks before the marathon on how I should taper with my soleum injuries. I was able to run my first marathon with confidence with his encouragement. Highly recommend Matt. Thank you.

I've worked with Matt over the past 8 weeks, and his guidance and support have enabled me to make a step change in my relationship with running. From running short distances once a week, I worked with Matt to get me running more frequently, longer distances and to prepare for a local 10k event. I surpassed all my targets and felt great doing it, which wouldn't have been possible without Matt's training plans, advice and encouragement. Highly recommended!

I canβt even begin to explain how much Matt and Wendy have helped me with my running journey. I couldnβt run 5km in January and completed my first 10km race last weekend. They have been so supportive and motivating throughout, not to mention how much more confident I am in myself not only in running but in everyday life. There is no way I would still be running consistently if I was on this journey on my own. Canβt recommend the Run Strong Project enough

I saw Matt for rehabilitation after breaking my wrist in three places earlier this year. He is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and understanding. He showed all the exercises really clearly and explained them well. He also shared them with me afterwards as images so that I could keep practicing. I would highly recommend him!
