Avoid this one !! What a dump of a place. The room was filthy with dirt and dust everywhere, a bed that was extremely uncomfortable with cheap sheets & duvet (wafer thin) Shower full of dirt & black mold, toilet seat hanging off. The pub part was shut so no refreshments or food. Noise coming from other room as walls extremely thin.... and a humming noise coming from the beer cellar maybe all night. The marketing photos on Booking.com, Google etc are very much staged, this place really is the pits!!

If it were possible I would give 0 stars. Booking in was over the phone and awkward. Room was basic but appeared OK for the price. Just after midnight water started pouring into the room through an electrical fitting in the ceiling and then the power blew. Tried several times to phone the contact number without success. The water eventually stopped but with a soaking floor and no power I ended up sleeping in my car. To this day, neither my daughter (who made the booking nor I have received any response to numerous calls and emails. Management has truly gone to ground.

I can't begin to describe, let alone allocate stars for this place. If you are looking for the Golden Lion, it isn't there ! It is called the Middlewich Taphouse. Access , after traversing a blind corner on a one way, fast piece of road, you are greeted by a fire escape with an extremely high bottom step. The rooms are beyond basic with optional cobwebs and unironed bedlinen. One of our party had a room that hadn't been serviced after the previous occupant and we were advised to take the bedding from the spare bed in the room upstairs and service it ourselves. In all honesty, no matter how cheap, I could not recommend.

Stayed there for four weeks they been charging me each week automatically from my credit card which was alright, but had to cancel my stay once more than 48 hours until check in for the following week and they didn’t refund money after many text messages. To be honest hotel rooms aren’t clean. When you book a room with them they will send you details with self-check in and room number, so once I came there to check in and my room already been taken by other person,so had to wait until someone come and open another room. I had to stay there, because it was the cheapest place to stay for that time, but better to pay more and less headache. Not recommend at all.

We took 2 rooms, and were fairly informed in advance that the pub was shut whilst being refurbed. Nice comms from host up front. This is definitely NOT suitable for anyone who struggles with stairs. The rooms (6 & 35) were basic, but very clean. Beds comfy, but a little soft. Shower in 6 was really good, very powerful and hot. Less powerful in 35. Rooms were a tad cold, but duvets nice and warm. Could hear a little bit from other guests but nothing that kept us awake. Towels were quite small. Served us well for a quick overnighter and good value. The StrEAT place in carpark was much better than I imagined, we had a lovely breakfast there, and Morrisons just across road.

Stayed in room 2 and cannot fault the accommodation. Great shower and double bed plus single. Downstairs is closed for renovation which may be a good thing as there was no noise. Great price and no complaints. Would book again. Can't comment on service as all self check in but drinks and kettle provided as well as a decent sized TV on the wall.

Cheap but you get what you pay for. 3 of us stayed in a family room (13) for just one night. The walls were paper thin. So much so we could hear our neighbour searching in a plastic carrier bag. You can also hear all the plumbing quite audibly. The double bed mattress was knackered so my legs were that much higher than my bum. No glasses in room but tea and coffee with a kettle which was handy. Room is a good size and lovely and warm. Tiling trim was very dusty as well as the other bathroom fixtures which would indicate close attention to cleaning hasn't really been taken. All in all, good location and ok for one night but simple cleaning and mattress change could take it to a 4/5 if you don't mind hearing water noises from all other parts all night.

We were provided a room in the building opposite the actual pub. It has a quaint and welcoming feeling. The communal kitchen is an added bonus not usually present with and Travel Lodge type place. The staff member was friendly and helpful and the local area is nice and with plenty of small shops. The room was a family room with a double and single bed. There was plenty of room for the 3 of us and the ensuite was handy with a communal bathroom if needed. I feel we were very well catered for. Perhaps the boiler could be turned down in the morning though, it was scalding even at lowest temp but that's a tiny thing. Overall, a very good 2 nights for a very fair price. Thank you.
