horrible, they closed the crescent road, the cars there got stuck both ways, dangerous. but they were unable to provide a teacher for a lesson, without any explanation, the students stayed on their own for about 50 minuts.

Not a good school. Clueless management. Some good teachers want the best for their students however they just get overshadowed by the many teachers who act more like friends when they should have boundaries. Too many water leaks. They once locked the toilets for quite some time because of some individuals and blamed it on whole year groups. Students were unable to go to the toilets freely and without any difficulty/ trouble because of the actions of the few. Disgusting. If you have students who are "vaping" in the toilets (their words not mine) then you seriously have an issue. I could go on and on to mention how bad UTC Reading is but I will spare them the trouble. They already know how much trouble they are in. Bare in mind I still can mention 10 more negatives about this school. Overall, I do NOT recommend this school. If anyone who is at UTC Reading wants to do well, they will have to rely on outside resources more than on the teachers to achieve the best they possibly can. Especially for ambitious students. I am very disappointed with this school. There is a reason why they went from "Outstanding" to "Inadequate" in the Ofsted report. I could tell this from the first day I joined that school. Biggest regret of my life.

After enrolling my son at UTC Reading, I noticed a significant decline in his academic performance, which I attribute to inadequate support, poor communication, and ineffective management at the school. As a result, his motivation and enthusiasm for education dwindled, causing me concern about his potential GCSE results despite his evident capability. Overall, the experience was disappointing for our family. I cannot recommend UTC Reading to prospective parents, despite its initially promising reputation.

Absolutely the best school in Reading in my opinion. They have the most friendly, entertaining and supportive staff, lots of opportunities to develop and excel in your career, best quality education, great subject options, really fun and educative dropdown days and employer workshops. Take it from me as being a student here that this is the best school that you will ever go to.

Genuinely just a really poor school. Teaching standards are horrendous and most students who joined the school ambitious come out with very poor results. Please do not listen to the 'Outstanding' rating that Ofsted gave over 7 years ago, this school must've been very different then. Many, many better schools nearby that unlike this school, won't set your child up for failure. Many people come to the school after being expelled from their old school because this is one of the few schools in Reading that admit students that've been expelled. During the mock exams, the students that hadn't passed were made to stay behind during the results assembly and were blamed for not putting in enough effort, except the school didn't consider their disorganised teaching could've been the cause for this. Another example is when all the boys toilets in the school were locked for weeks except for one, because students had been graffitiing the walls. During break and lunch there were always queues to go into the extremely unsanitary toilet which ended up making students late to their lessons afterwards. During exam season, we had police dogs come rounds all the classrooms on multiple occasions, year 10 and 11 were taken out of their lessons once and made to go into the hall where everyone's bags were searched and we were made to go through metal detectors. Obviously extreme, you could argue it was necessary if there was genuine risk that someone may've brought in something dangerous, but do you really want to send your child to a school where this is a concern? I don't want to generalise the staff because there are genuinely some really nice and hardworking teachers who go the extra mile to teach, but this is sadly overshadowed by the unprofessional staff who don't care about student wellbeing or progress, an incompetent leadership team who don't listen to any constructive criticism. I've seen multiple times teachers cursing at the top of their lungs at students. Please do you and your child a favour and don't make them leave their current school to come here.

I have been a student at UTC Reading since 2019 (and I currently am finishing off my A Levels here) and I have enjoyed this school, yet it has a lot of flaws... One of the main issues that I have noticed, is the lack of confident management from the school's management team. Constantly, throughout my time at UTC Reading, when I was doing my GCSE, the classes were disrupted by students. These students caused a massive distraction to all of the other students and the teachers never did anything about it and a lot of the times would just give up teaching for that lesson. This has been evident thought my time at UTCR and even to today disruptions still happen and teachers still do not even bother to teach the class or calm down the class. Other issues include: - Poorly planned timetables (the whole school has breaks at the same time, which means that they need to eat in the TINY canteen together (which can barely fit just year 10-11). And that the timetable is planned so poorly that some days students need to go in for only an hour or two, and then make there way home, which is unnecessary travel and just a hassle for most students. - Roofs of buildings constantly leak and have issues - No common room for 6th form - 6th form students MUST eat in the small canteen, with the rest of the whole school, where there is not enough space - Students are not punished harsh enough - Fire alarms are pulled EXTREAMLY frequently, causing disruptions to learning. - The student toilets (both male and female) are disgusting and are trashed very frequently - Students gather in the toilets and vape Do not be fooled with the 'Outstanding' and 'World Class School' that UTC Reading plaster everywhere. These were achieved years ago (2014-2015, if I remember correctly), and these accreditations do not show what the school is like now.

It is a great school! Gave me so many opportunities! All the teachers are very kind and helpful. UTC Reading is adapting as very young school. The school is specialised in Computer Science and Engineering. They all also provide clubs which they call 'enrichment' have main fields of interest from Robotics, Art, Coding and Photography. The canteen is great too. The food has improved significantly. It is so much more vibrant and healthy now. The staff in charge of the canteen , are very friendly and optimistic people. UTC is very unique school as it tries to activities that makes us student more comfortable when we will working in the real world. UTC organises a lot of workshops and work experience. The principle of UTC, Jonathan Nicholls, is also very motivational person. Reading his article which he post every week in the morning, really gives a boost of energy which can last all day! In my opinion as an A level student, I would say UTC is a fantastic choice to sent your children who want to become the next aspiring entrepreneur, engineer, doctor, lawyer and whatever your child wish to be. Thank you, Aaryan Paul
