Hello :-) I would like to offer my updated, opinion of my experience with Camelid Veterinary Services Ltd, Goring Heath, Reading. We took two of our Alpacas to Claire last year (2024), one of which had a nasty infection that had destroyed a large part of its jawbone, Claire carried out an operation to remove this part of the jaw, as our local vets, despite much effort had been unable to stop the infection over a continued period of time. The operation was successful, we followed Claires aftercare instructions and "Frostie" fully recovered, you would never know she had been unwell, her jaw and face look beautiful, she is now happy, healthy and looking perfect, a year later, (as I write this updated review), she is a beautiful 4 year old girl, with lots more years ahead of her, I cant thank Claire and her team enough! The reason I am writing this a year later is because The second Alpaca that travelled with Frostie, "Torie" had been unable to conceive , Claire and her team investigated and carried out some procedures and this year "Torie" now has a healthy Cria at foot and looks very happy to be a Mum at long last! Thank you so much to Claire and her team for the care and commitment to "Torie" who is a very Proud Mummy! We have also used Claire two years running for Faecal Testing to check our Herd for worm eggs and coccidia burdens, this process is made easy by Claire and her team and offers peace of mind with your Herd, the first year we had some parasites detected and this enabled us to treat the affected Herd and prevent any real problems, we have just dropped off this years samples! Claire is very knowledgeable and I trust her implicitly and would thoroughly recommend her as anyone's point of contact if you need any help with anything to do with alpacas. THANKYOU again to Claire and All her Team, with an extra big thank you from Frostie and Torie :-)

Claire and Camelid Veterinary Services have been amazing over the years. She's always got great advice and is willing to talk things through with our local vets, who don't have much alpaca experience. She's been out to help us with herd health checks and pregnancy scanning and gives so much information. She's helped us through a season of 5+ premature cria and the necessary plasma transfusions. We send all our fecal samples to Camelid Vet and they are processed very quickly with detailed advice on next steps. It's always an amazing experience.

Excellent service. Communication is very good between the lab and customer, the results are detailed and very quick, and explanations of any worming needed are clear. If any clarification is needed, they’re quick to respond to queries. I assume it’s a fairly large lab / practice, but the service provided always seems very personal. Definitely recommend!

Claire delivered an absolutely brilliant talk on camelid medicine for vet students at the Cambridge Farm Animal Veterinary Society. The talk was very informative and engaging, with plenty of anecdotes in between. There were also plenty of great discussions. Camelid medicine is not something that we receive huge amounts of teaching on in the veterinary curriculum, but Claire's talk gave the students a lot more confidence on how to approach a camelid case. Thank you so much for coming Claire - we would love to have you back!

For any owners/breeders (including beginners like myself) who are seeking a more comprehensive education in alpaca’s, please take advantage of the intensive camelid care course that the Alpaca Vet UK has to offer. I have just completed it and can honestly say I have learned some truly fundamental and invaluable teachings and practices that I have now adopted and utilise in my day to day care for our starter herd of 9. I am also in Spain with a vet that is still learning about camelids, so to have access to the formulary that this course also supplies and to ask Claire questions during the fortnightly Q&A was hugely beneficial. I feel more confident and capable of providing better care for my beloved “pacaniños” since embarking on this course. The online portal is incredibly user-friendly abd easy to navigate and the course guide is great for keeping in our barns and referring back to when I need it. The beauty of this course, it’s entirely online, so it provides flexibility around my hours of availability and I was able to study remotely from Spain - a double Win!

I took Claire’s course on camelid healthcare and did two online consultations with her. Claire is down to earth and easy to ask questions to. One of our llamas got sick shortly after the course and, because of this course, I was able to check her out and tell our emergency vet her symptoms. Our vet said that they were impressed with my knowledge and had some good ideas about how to intervene based off of the details I shared. Our girl got quick medical care and we were able to avoid an expensive inpatient stay! This course could not have been more helpful! -Carol Kaase, USA, Timberview Ranch and Retreat

Just completed an on line course - great content that was delivered in a professional and friendly manner by Claire who clearly loves these animals and knows her subject inside and out. Opportunity to ask questions. Would suit beginners or more experienced owners. Recommend.

Claire really knows her stuff in regards camelids. So glad I signed up for her course. Her commonsense approach combined with an evidence based approach means my alpacas should hopefully benefit from my increased knowledge. There is so much information out there but not all of it is factual . This is!

Claire Whitehead who heads up this practice has given amazing support and guidance to my sister and brother in law during a particularly difficult time recently with one of their beloved llamas. Special people share their knowledge and offer support in times of need. Thank you

I took three of my alpacas to see Claire, two of them to have their teeth trimmed and one to check on his health because he was loosing condition. Claire and the team did a brilliant job diagnosing and I am pleased to say my boy is feeling so much better now after a week of treatment. Thank you so much for the service you provided at your fantastic camelid facilities.
