I asked if they could put a new winder on an old watch with great sentimental value. They refused saying something inside might be broken. Well it might, yes, but I would have paid for repair. They said it wasn't worth it commercially as it was not an expensive watch. I said I was prepared to pay over the odds due to the sentimental value. They said it wasn't even going. Well, of course not, it doesn't have a winder! (though it does tick if you shake it - as I explained). They said their workshop person would refuse as the cost is more than the value of the watch. Good grief - I was willing to pay for it being more expensive than the value. I guess business must be so good, they can afford to turn people away who are happy to pay over the odds for their service. Wish such a customer would come my way! I was considering buying a watch from them as well later in the year - I'll look elsewhere now. Update - the watch has been repaired elsewhere by someone who understood I was happy to pay more than it was worth.
I love Offords and always go to them for any repairs, valuation or purchasing - friendly helpful service, excellent value ( love the pre owned jewellery) and Nigel is always honest and realistic about what can be achieved. Like the reviewer below I’ve taken a watch in that held sentimental value but I understood that it was just not possible to repair it. I respect that they won’t take money off customers if there’s no guarantees. It’s a well established and honest business that can be relied on.
I first visited this shop around 2020/2021 and had a terrible experience with a lady who I spoke to who was extremely unfriendly and dismissive towards me after I had asked if a piece of jewellery I had could be fixed. I tentatively went in again more recently and found a much better experience and then again today. I had ring clip added and bracelet fixed, which was all I wanted, it was done very quickly and at a surprisingly reasonable rate. Plus I didn’t realise this, but they also do batteries for watches, which is helpful for local people to know, I think. That was sorted quickly too. Those issues had been my bug bears for a while and they were all easily sorted in one day.
My husband and I visited both the Romsey and Winchester shops of Offord & Sons in the run up to our wedding and were so happy with the customer care we received on each visit. Compared to other jewellery shops, the whole experience at Offord & Sons felt very personal, and it was lovely to support a local, family-run business. I originally popped into Romsey to browse the selection of pre-owned jewellery. My fiancé, remembering how lovely the staff were, later returned and was advised to visit the Winchester branch, where the owner Philip personally designed a bespoke engagement ring using a 3D printer to mock up examples. My husband said that he was very impressed with the knowledgeable advice he was given throughout the design service. We then went back to Romsey to have my late grandfather's wedding ring resized. Nigel did a great job with a very sentimental piece of jewellery and it turned out perfectly. Before the big day we visited the Winchester branch (again!) as I absolutely loved my engagement ring, and the staff helped me to find the perfect pair of diamond and pearl drop earrings to wear which matched. Have used these jewellers a couple of times for resizing and repair. They done a very good job both times and reasonable price.
Customer service and a smile is seriously lacking in this establishment. If you’re looking to make a bad day worse, go for a chat with the staff at Offord and sons. I hope they feel better soon
They special ordered an item from Italy for me. It was worth the wait!! Very, very satisfied. Great service all the way to the USA
Really uninterested in my custom on several occasions. Both when asking to have a ring resized and when trying on engagement rings. Having just had my ring resized there they have taken off a coloured finish that was part of the ring's design. Wasn't charged for the resizing but no actual apology was made. I was told the finish would probably have worn off eventually anyway! I was also told they'd never seen that before and they couldn't put it right. That was part of what made my ring so unique. Very, very disappointed.
My Swiss automatic wrist watch needed a service and re-glassing. Last time I went to a Rolex specialist, the result was poor. This time I went to Offord and Sons in Romsey. Very polite and punctual service, my watch came back looking like new, and three months on has kept perfect time, Brilliant!
