   Southampton Common is one of the best green escapes in the city for nature lovers and walkers alike. Covering over 300 acres, it offers a great variety of landscapes – from open meadows and woodland trails to peaceful ponds teeming with wildlife. The walking routes are well-maintained and varied, whether you’re after a short loop or a longer meandering stroll. The woodland areas are especially lovely in spring and autumn, with plenty of shade and birdsong. There are a few gentle inclines, but it’s mostly flat and easygoing, ideal for all ages and abilities. The model boating lake and cemetery lake are nice spots to pause – you’ll often see ducks, moorhens, and occasionally herons or even bats at dusk. It’s a surprisingly rich area for urban wildlife. If you’re into quiet nature walks, early mornings or weekday afternoons are best, when it’s calm and less crowded. There’s also a more secluded feel on the paths heading toward the back near The Avenue. Whether you’re walking solo, with a dog, or just clearing your head, the Common offers a lovely slice of nature right in the city – no need to go far to feel away from it all.

   Beautiful green space with lovely lakes, trees and the old Southampton Cemetery. Great history including graves of people who died on the Titanic. These have blue markers. Also, the Hawthorn Cafe is very nice.

   I never knew such a great park existed just behind me here. I went with my family and friends for a Easter picnic and had a swell time playing football with the wives and soaking in the sun while having great meals we had prepared from home. Felt like I was back in my home country. Though I didn’t get to explore the whole park. I heard there’s a lot of sight for the eyes at the common and how big it is. We hope to visit there again.

   A great place in the city for a walk, a run, cycling and bringing the dogs out. Large open fields and lots of trees as well as lakes too. A large playground and a nearby pub, The Cowherd’s. Parking via Cemetery Rd. Easy access for all. An essential part of the great outdoors during the last few months of the pandemic and beyond.
