Visited today with my very ill ,elderly, disabled mother. Mum paid by cash, no receipts given mum gave £20 got £3 change. I went and asked for a receipt for her as mum likes to keep tabs on what she spends . As we were leaving we were accused of not paying and stopped as we walked out the door. We were called out in front of the whole cafe and those patrons sitting outside. You haven’t paid you’ve left without paying in a loud voice. I replied we did pay I have the receipt. I got the receipt out and was told no my colleague said you didn’t pay and you need to come back she walked back in with our receipt and brought out the manager that I may add who gave us the receipt originally. She said that I had made a mistake and it was easy done I replied no mistake has been made I paid the other lady we have a receipt and this is disgraceful behaviour, shouting at an elderly lady who was struggling to stand on a zimmer frame where was she going to run too ? Two customers outside said they were appalled to her. The next minute the lady who had taken our money came out and said they paid me I took their cash by then my mum was so upset and tearful. I asked for an apology from both the manager and the blonde server ‘Heather‘ She came out and laughed and said sorry. I asked why she thought it was funny the other lady said that’s just her face she smiles and laughs a lot. And said sorry this happened. Do you want a cup of tea complimentary to which I replied saying you accused me and my mother of theft of a cup of tea and cake three times even after a receipt was shown I will never step into the place again. I asked for the owners number to which I was told at first we don’t have it. To which I said don’t insult me as well you know how to contact the owner. At that point I was given a number to which I called. On the way out of the cafe I said out loud to everyone who had been watching the whole thing I had paid and I had a receipt and was not a thief. I was so mortified i felt I had to explain myself. Meanwhile my 76 year old mother cried the whole way home. We’d only gone there for the day as my mum wanted to pay her respects to her dead parents whose final resting place is Newcastle as she had been on life support herself last month. So my final word is if you frequent this establishment goto the till and pay not at your table and get a receipt.

I’m visiting from Scotland, came in yesterday on my way to the beach. I was served by a lovely waitress wearing blue crocks - didn't catch her name - who was incredibly friendly gave great local recommendations! My only wish was that the coffee, made by a different server who was on her phone when we tried to notify her, was a little bit warmer.

Fast and efficient breakfast service on a busy Sunday morning when I ordered at 9:30am. Dined alone, then my wife woke and fancied breakfast, so I brought herstraight back here. That in itself is a good sign. However, the difference an hour can make is clearly noticeable. Waiting over 30 minutes for my wife's poached egg on toast, with no explanation as to why things are taking so long, dampened my second visit in the same morning.

Very nice and cosy cafe in the heart of lovely Newcastle, County Down. Staff is very friendly and attentive while the restaurant is very clean and efficient. Yes, it can get quite busy at times, but that is because how well received this cafe is within the community. It has been an utmost pleasure for me to have been a guest of this gem.

The Savoy Cafe is definitely one of my favourite places in Newcastle to go, Paddy and all the staff are welcoming, courteous and friendly and the service and food is exceptional. It’s a lovely place to relax and chill out whilst having some beautiful food. We literally went here most days for breakfast and dinner because it was great value for great food with a good selection. From burgers and goujons to fries and salads, everything was cooked to perfection! Thank you guys, we’ll definitely be back! 100% my favourite place in Newcastle!
