"Northern Ireland, can we have KFC?" "We have KFC at home!" KFC at home: Country Fried Chicken (now Herron's) I say that phrase with absolute affection. Country Fried Chicken is a place that is so good it genuinely elevates the quality of fried chicken across the country. Store-to-store quality may vary, but on the whole this place is a great place to eat, at Newcastle is no exception. Although that is probably not true, as this one is exceptional. The staff are friendly, the service is fast, the food is great, all the hallmarks of a good take-away. I didn't mention it in my KFC review, but these take-outs being on opposite sides of the road really elevates how good both chains over here are. By having this friendly competition rather than an outright monopoly, both chains are free to expand in different directions for different customers, and as such seem to strive to be better places to eat in general. A very positive relationship that results in many a satisfied customer, myself included!

"Country Fried Chicken" establishment located on Newcastle's busy Main Street. Takeaway or dine in up a flight of stairs on hygienically compromised table surfaces. Food may be described as "having potential for improvement in quality and presentation"! Free on street parking outside the premises.

Going down hill steadily. I'm a local and have been going here for decades. The prices go up and the quality goes down. It's sad to say the chicken is getting drier and smaller and they have changed either chip supplier or how the chips are cooked. They are not nice anymore, like little bricks. The chips look the same but aren't. Also good luck getting salt, napkins and a fork! Used to be standard and now hardly ever. Poor show Country.

One of Newcastle's legendary eating houses. It's been around for decades and delivers consistently good fast food. Forget KFC, if you've not had Herons CFC you're missing out.

1st trip to Northern Ireland for me and my wife visiting relatives. They were taking us sightseeing when we stopped here for dinner. Their description was a KFC style chicken kebab with chips and gravy and salad. We were intrigued. The shop was soon full of locals so it must be popular. We were not disappointed. It all went together very well and it was very filling. It was the same price as KFC, which was across the road, which we are big fans of. But this was a nice change, and I'm sure we would have returned if we had been staying longer.

Cheaper than KFC over the road and arguably nicer. Clean inside and plenty of seating too. All the family enjoyed the food. Only 1 bad thing was the chips but they were nicer than the ones at KFC.
