Reception staff were great. Service in the bar wasn't that helpful. Very rigid timings for serving food , including bringing in outside food when the kitchen is closed. Rooms just of average size .

I want to say a special thank you to the reception staff that looked after me so well after I've just had four days in the Marriott after an operation. I think his name was Jack. The man deserves a pay rise. I would seriously recommend this hotel to anyone staying locally. The hotel is clean, spacious and the staff are great. I was staying in room 620. Thanks again.

This place has a really friendly and welcoming feel from the moment you arrive. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, making it easy to relax and feel at home. It’s especially nice if you’re looking for somewhere calm, as the hotel is quiet and peaceful, allowing you to rest without any unnecessary noise or distractions. The rooms and common areas feel well cared for, adding to the overall sense of comfort. Another great point is the pricing. The rates are very reasonable, especially considering the comfort and quiet environment you get in return. It feels like good value for money, which makes the stay even more enjoyable and stress-free. Overall, it’s a cozy, quiet hotel with friendly vibes and good prices—an easy place to recommend for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Dear Marriott Customer Service, I’m writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent stay at the Marriott Portsmouth, as well as the ongoing issues I’ve experienced over nearly a decade of visits. Despite being a loyal Platinum member (ID: 318307479), my experience at this property has consistently fallen short of Marriott’s standards. I’ve stayed here multiple times over the past 10 years, often for extended visits, and I’ve made every effort to communicate my preferences and concerns in advance — including a call placed one week prior to my arrival at 1am. Unfortunately, my concerns were ignored. I was once again assigned a room at the far end of the corridor, a recurring issue that I’ve flagged repeatedly. The room itself was unacceptable: The iron was rusty and unusable The kettle was visibly dirty and unhygienic The glassware had lip marks from previous guests The room near the lift had sealed windows, raising safety and comfort concerns Even after returning to the room later in the day, these issues remained unresolved. It’s clear that housekeeping and front desk operations are poorly coordinated, and the overall service feels indifferent at best. This property does not reflect the quality or care I expect from Marriott. It feels more akin to a budget hotel, and I would have chosen to stay elsewhere had I not been constrained by transportation. I will certainly make alternative arrangements for future visits to the UK. I hope this feedback is taken seriously. I would appreciate a response outlining how Marriott intends to address these concerns and ensure that loyal members receive the service they deserve.

Ideally located for the UK-Spain ferry. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and professional; there is ample parking; and the rooms are very spacious, clean, and comfortable. I'd definitely stay again, although I wouldn't use the hotel restaurant in the future. I've knocked one star off my review due to the disappointing experience I had with my evening meal. I very politely (and even apologetically) sent a fish, which smelled off, back to the kitchen, and the server was very helpful and attentive. However, I was informed that the kitchen staff didn't take it too well and questioned my decision (not to my face, though), although I wasn't charged for the dish. I was hungry after a long trip and didn't want to go searching for another eaterie at that stage, so I had a curry instead, which was OK but nothing special. However, the last thing I expected was to have my judgement as a paying guest called into question because I originally refused to eat something which, in my opinion, could have posed a risk to my health. Furthermore, I was spending higher than usual prices for a meal due to it being a hotel (as well as £30 on a bottle of wine which can be bouught in Spain for less than €10: my choice, but still a huge mark up), so I expected much better quality. Thankfully, the rest of my experience at the hotel overall was excellent, which made up for that particular disappointment. I now wouldn't recommend the restaurant to anyone. However, the hotel accommodation and bar, as well as the staff who deal face-to-face with the public, were excellent, so I would have no problem recommending the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel as a place to stay.

Good rooms, clean and well equipped. Dinner was surprisingly good, some hotels seems to have reduced quality due to inflation but that didn’t seems to be happen here, dinner better than many comparable hotels I’ve recently visited. Bar staff take a long time to notice people waiting for a drink, or just leave one person serving even when they can see a queue. Reception staff good. Parking is an additional fee as is the Wi-Fi (even basic, if you want enhanced that’s £15).

This was my first time at the hotel, so this may be a series of unfortunate one-offs, but i'm posting it anyway as an honest review of my experience during my stay. Your mileage may vary. Stayed at the hotel for work. Had multiple issues with my stay. Front desk had no record of my booking despite me having already checked in on the Marriott app and been assigned a room number. Bar staff seemed to actively go out of their way to avoid noticing people waiting for a drink. Kitchen closes dead-on 10pm, so if you don't get a dinner order in at least half an hour in advance, you won't be eating at the restaurant. Just go into town instead, there are much better options available. Some staff were absolutely lovely (special mention to Jay, Daniel, Megan and Ishraqa at the front desk and Tracie in the restaurant for their EXCELLENT customer service and friendly attitudes), but others seemed to be rather standoffish, which is surprising for the Marriott. Check-in requires the usual £200 credit card hold for incidentals, which is fine and expected, but if you use Apple Pay for that pre-authorization instead of your physical credit card, you'll wake up to notes outside your room every day asking you to come to reception to speak to them, which gets annoying really fast. If you have an EV car, the hotel does have 2 charging spaces, but good luck trying to use either of them as they're almost always taken 24/7 and there's no policy to notify customers to move their vehicles when charging is complete. Finally, the pool is still closed due to "covid". All that aside, the room was spacious and fit for purpose with all the usual Marriott amenties. My bed was comfortable and housekeeping turned down the room to the usual high standards daily. The restaurant also has a good atmosphere if you're traveling with a few people for work or leisure, and the breakfast buffet selection is extremely diverse with some really great options. It's the usual Marriott experience, just with a much larger and well-designed Cast Iron restaurant. Titanium member so I've stayed at my fair share of Marriotts. Would I stay again? If necessary for work, yes. For leisure? Probably not.

Visited the Marriott hotel for work purposes and my stay there was incredible. The service and quality of the rooms provided were top notch however, the customer service i received from Harrison, who was one of the crew members stole the show, he was absolutely phenomenal. I would definitely visit the hotel again based on my experience with him.

The hotel itself is modern and clean. Plenty of parking spaces available. There can be a long queue at check in desk for most of the time so be prepared. However, the staff there do not seem to care about their customers (even for elite level members). Called to ask if it is possible to make arrangements for early check-in but got refused in a very rude man saying that's not very possible and asked me to go and try my luck. Didn't even bother to leave a note in the system.

Not the most promising location close so close to the motorway, but this is a welcoming, comfortable and immaculate hotel close to Portsmouth. Friendly welcome at check in, with two adjacent rooms as we were visiting as a family. Large, well decorated rooms with air conditioning, good sized bathroom and This Works toiletries. Rooms have desk, armchair and large flat screen TV. The family room (2 x double bed) only had one beside table, between the two beds - a shelf for the other sides of the beds would be a useful addition for glasses or phones. Hotel is about 5 mins walk from an out of town shopping centre with large Tesco supermarket and cafes. Don't forget to validate your car parking so that you aren't charged.
