Micks
“Mick’s barbers - Suzy Sometimes in life you get, pleasantly, surprised! Having past retirement age, more than 4 years ago, I have sat in barber’s chairs, over the past 10 years & more … having spoken to the person about to cut my about … how I would like it to be cut – then sat & watched the same (OAP’s) haircut appear on my head! Just over a year ago (having thought that I had tried every barber’s shop in a 10 mile radius!) I thought that I would give it 1 last chance & called a “new (to me)” barbers shop that was a pleasant 20 minutes’ walk from where we live … holding my breath, I asked “if there was anyone available to cut my hair?” & was asked when I was available & made an appointment. My trepidation, on arrival, was soon overcome, when I was introduced to a very pleasant lady … called Suzy, who made me feel very relaxed with her smiling welcome. So I thought, at least the next 30 minutes of my life will not be so disappointing as my usual experience in barber’s shops. What followed was a complete revelation to me! Having sat down & exchanged some pleasantries’ Suzy asked me how I would like my hair to be cut? Well, I thought, do I waste another 2-3 minutes on telling the person about to cut my hair … how I would like it to be cut (?) to end up leaving the shop, 30 minutes later with the usual “OAP cut” (?), or just say … the usual for us 60 year-olds please (?) I gave it 1 last chance & told Suzy how … “I would like it cut” i.e. not the standard blue-print for some sad 60-yearold who was obviously not aware of how 60-yearolds’ are required to have their head half shaven & the standard length of each individual hair to be no more than ½ inch long. My “pleasant surprise” began to unfold as Suzy began to apply what I had asked for … not what I should accept! As well as the unfamiliar picture unfolding in front of me … of not seeing clumps of my hair falling to the floor … I actually found someone who was interesting to talk with, had a cheery manor & made my anxieties disappear. I can now say, with over a years’ experience, that I believe that I have found the 1 person … in over many years, who is: an accomplished hairdresser, listens to what the customer wants & is such a pleasant person to share a casual ½ hour with, each 4 weeks, chatting on all subjects, feeling relaxed & ending, without the need to screw-up your eyes & looking into the mirror in front of you, by actually saying how you feel about your hair, when asked … an all-round excellent experience. I also know, from the many comments that I heard, on arrival, when a previous client is leaving … Suzy’s talents are not exclusive to people of my age, but I have hear mothers leaving with their children & every age category … all being so happy to book their next appointment, with Suzy, while pouring complements on Suzy as they smilingly leave the shop. My advice … don’t take my word for it … if you really want to have your hair cut in the manner that you have requested & do not want to sit disappointingly watching someone else’s creation emerging on your head & want to have an all-round good experience, call Mick’s barbers & ask for Suzy.”
