After living in the village for over 15 years and spending a lot of money in that time at this pub, I will never step foot in there again! We arrived at the hanging gate tonight for some food, on arrival I asked if I could set a tab up as I had a birthday voucher (I know sometimes in the summer they don’t allow tabs so I wanted to double check!) the bar staff agreed to a tab so the voucher could be deducted at the end. We placed our order to 5 minutes later being told they had no bread so could offer us a baguette for 2 of the meals to which we were fine with. After our meal I then went to settle our bill to find out I couldn’t actually use my birthday voucher because they stated they aren’t a JW Lees pub, the bar staff were rude and not interested at all so I quizzed them and asked if there was a JW Lees sign anywhere outside - she replied yes there is ( il attach photos!) but you still can’t use a JW Lees voucher in the pub? So I guess it’s like Tesco having the CLUBCARD sign next to their sign, promoting offers but actually you can’t use the CLUBCARD inside!? I have raised a complaint with customer services!

The Hanging Gate isn't far from where we live in Runcorn but this is the first time we have been there ---- absolutely lovely pub. Piping hot food - excellent value for money - and gorgeous triple cooked chips! We will definitely be going there again.

Last minute booking but the food was excellent. Staff friendly and the service was very good. I recommend the chicken with new potatoes and veg. Delicious……….we’ll be back.

Food was lovely, well presented and tasty. Staff were very friendly and polite. Cosy decor, garden to the rear though I didn't sit there as I only went for the meal. Happy with cost and food and I would visit again .

Had a very nice meal with a group of friends on Monday 30th October. Everyone enjoyed their food and the Manager went out of his way to make sure everything was right. There is a good choice of food with some smaller portions for those who prefer light bites and the menu choice is good and reasonably priced. Looking forward to our next meal in March.

Out of 11 meals, the majority were overcooked, the chips were ok though. Vegetables didn’t taste fresh and were served overcooked and unseasoned. Grilled fish was extremely dry. Customer service was generally poor. Offered a discount due to the number of mistakes made which was generous, however not recommended.

Really friendly staff Beautiful halloumi curry and a cosy pub.£12 for half rice and half chip and a naan bread . Really well priced. My mum had scampi and chips and she enjoyed too.

Another fantastic meal at the Hanging Gate with the usual excellent service. Chris & his team really do care about ensuring you have a good time & quality food in a cosy environment. My youngest son especially enjoyed his garlic bread to start followed by a quality beef burger. Highly recommended.
