It will only allow one review from the same person (me!) so each time we go I will just add to my review on here and TRIPADVISOR, date it along with adding photos! 26th March 2025 see full review on Tripadvisor. 19th June 2024 ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Hubby Neil and I back to The Crown in Widnes, it’s always been fabulous food here each time we’ve been….. and that’s why we return! Plates are always a generous serving, so we very rarely have a starter. Neil had a lovely big, thick piece of gammon, homemade chunky chips, double eggs, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and onion rings. I had nachos with added chilli with big thick chunks of beef, very tender, which melted in your mouth, with plenty of guacamole, salsa, thick sour cream and layers of generous melted cheese…. We had a side order of homemade chips to share…. Each visit, this place has been brilliant, great serve and waiting time for food has always been, just the cooking time….. This pub is definitely one of our ‘go to places’….. it has an excellent varied menu…..xxx❤️ ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Hubster Neil and I, to The Crown in Widnes. The is a lovely olde worlde pub and was spotless…… It mentions on the website that the food may be a little bit of a wait as the kitchen is small and food is cooked to order…… ‘Definitely worth the wait!!!!’….. starter we’re out in 10 minutes, so it wasn’t long at all. Both had a sharing platter as starters: Pigs in blankets, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, chicken wings, garlic bread and BBQ dipping sauce. Entrée Neil had: ‘Trio of old English sausages’ Homemade sausages, creamed mash potatoes, a selection of fresh vegetables and thick rich gravy with a sprinkle of dried fried onions on top to garnish. I had homemade Lasagne with homemade crème fraiche cheese sauce, garlic ciabatta, homemade ‘proper’ chips and a side salad with grated Parmesan. They are so generous with all the portions, desperate Dan dishes! I couldn’t finish mine, it had me beat! All the dishes were PIPING hot and so so tasty, flavours were so delicious…. All staff were so polite and very courteous indeed. Will we be back to his gem of a Gastro pub….. 100% YES.

Been here a few times now and I've never had a bad meal. It's proper home-cooked pub food with some excellent seasonal specials, tasty and great portions - the lasagne is particularly delicious. I've only ever experienced lovely service from the staff - very helpful and accommodating to kids too.

What a lovely pub! Great atmosphere and really friendly staff. We turned up without booking, thinking a Wednesday would be quiet, but it was actually quite busy. They still managed to make space for us, which we really appreciated. I had the spicy pork with noodles and my partner had the fajitas—both were delicious. The menu had a great choice too. Really impressed and we’ll definitely be back!

Been going here for years but the current set up is top notch. We went for my sons 21st birthday and from the moment we went in to book to the moment we went after the meal, everything was superb. Food was great, service spot on and not too pushy to get us out and we had an area reserved for my FIL who is elderly and in a wheelchair so they accommodated him without any fuss at all. Rachel who managed us was awesome and her team are a credit to her. Thanks Rachel.

Dropped in for lunch, never been before, the food was excellent, we had the steak and mushroom baguette with home made chips, food was absolutely beautiful, freshly made to order. The garden was lovely, calm and quiet, despite having quite a few other diners. The service was prompt and very pleasant staff. It might have been our first visit but it definitely won't be our last. Good fresh food, well cooked no microwave overprocessed food here, a proper delight.

If you go for a meal, which I highly recommend, call them and book first because this place does amazing food and is usually pretty full. Great food, clean environment, friendly, polite and accommodating staff who really made certain customers were happy with the food, absolutely great experience, I will definitely be visiting again!

Met up with schoolfriends for catch up on a Sunday. Friends both had Sunday roast which was spectacular and HUGE i opted for Steak and Ale pie which was also huge but have to say congratulations to the chef. Chips were lovely but the pie was superb. I would go again as although meals were each £15 approx before drinks the portions and the quick, attentive service made it worth that bit extra. Would recommend for those with big appetites especially :) well done Crown
