Fantastic food and friendly staff, we enjoyed our 3rd visit here and were not disappointed. Would definitely recommend.
La Parrilla has great atmosphere that felt authentic and like stepping instantly out of Merseyside, and Britain, into a much more relaxed and welcoming environment. It was lively but not rowdy. The staff are friendly and helpful, and clearly take pride in what they do. I was very impressed with the service from all members of the team that we interacted with; they were confident, competent, pleasant and respectful. I wasn’t paying much attention to other tables, but it seemed as if everything was running smoothly and everyone was having a good time. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, and the Sangria was possibly the best I have had… certainly in the UK. The restaurant is clean, as were the glasses, dinnerware, and cutlery. I definitely recommend La Parrilla.
I really try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but this restaurant made it unusually difficult. For a place branding itself as an authentic Mexican restaurant, the first red flag was a big one: when I asked about their mezcal selection, the server confidently informed me that mezcal was “a spirit from Colombia.” Not only is that completely false but the staff doubled down when I politely corrected them. It’s hard to trust a restaurant’s understanding of Mexican cuisine when they don’t even grasp one of its most iconic spirits. But the real shock? They didn’t even serve tacos. A Mexican restaurant with no tacos is like an Italian place without pasta. It left the menu feeling oddly empty, like they were trying to imitate the idea of Mexican food without actually serving it. The dishes they did offer were bland and forgettable, lacking seasoning, heat, or any sense of authenticity. Service was friendly enough, but unfortunately friendliness can’t compensate for a menu and staff that feel completely disconnected from the cuisine they claim to represent. If you’re looking for a genuine Mexican dining experience—or even just a place that serves tacos—this isn’t it.
I’m giving it a one star for the food as it wasn’t close to being traditional Mexican food. The only thing that made it Mexican was the decor. They only had one salsa option that was sweet. Salsas should come in a variety of spiciness or at least have hot sauce in a bottle as an option. The rice that came with our meal was NOT Mexican at all. We asked about the refried beans and he said they were red kidney beans. Again, not traditional Mexican. Also, Mexican music should be played rather than music from a completely different country.
6th time coming here staff alway quick and responsive. The food really Nices and reasonably priced! I would recommend the potato wedges dest in Liverpool!
It's not often that I get the opportunity to write about a great Mexican restaurant because I've been to so many run of the mill ones, but La Parrilla is absolutely fantastic. The portion sizes are probably the best thing about this place, and there is a definite value for money here. Additionally to the great food, they also do reasonably priced cocktails to accompany your meal. The staff members cannot do enough for you here and the food is sensational. The best I've been to so far.
We went here at lunch time (good lunch time deals on tapas and 2 courses). The service was attentive and quick. The portions were of good size (we went for the large tapas lunch option... 3 of the large plates are more than enough food). The only reason it didn't get 5* was that I got the impression that the chicken wings weren't fresh and had been reheated. Other than that, thee ready of the food was very tasty.
Fabulous Mexican restaurant in a vibrant part of town. It has a huge menu with plenty of different options and lots for vegetarians. I had nachos and a chimichanga. Both were so delicious and the potion sizes are humongous, we even took some home. The staff are a delight, very friendly and helpful. There are lots of cocktails to try too. Would happily return.
Food was really good, so were the drinks / cocktails. I found the menu to be a little confusing though, there's a lot going on and was challenging to figure out what was included in the specials deals. Definitely not rocket science, but making it a bit more consumer friendly could help everyone :) Our server could have done with a couple of smiles more, as he seemed a bit grumpy, and you'd think that a table of 10 people should be appreciated for the business they bring - we were not a lousy table, by the way, so there was no excuse for being unfriendly.
Delicious food, excellent cocktails and colourful, fun decor. We especially enjoyed the nachos - great toppings & tortillas had a good crunch. Just be aware, though, that the burritos are mega in size, and could easily be shared between two. We'll definitely recommend this place, which is ideally located on Bold Street.
