Unlike other reviewers here, I have absolutely no complaints about the service. Although there was a cast of thousands serving us, the young staff were unfailingly polite and efficient so I am at a loss to understand some of the poor experiences documented in reviews of this restaurant. The location is superb with beautiful views across the Mersey and I can’t help feeling that you are paying for this as the place is not cheap. But renting such a vew must be a little pricey and that will be reflected in your bill. The restaurant is comfortable and well laid out too so it is a nice place to be. But you tend to go to a restaurant to eat food, so the food is a rather important part of the experience. Let’s be fair here: the food is not awful, it’s just not remotely noteworthy. I could have cooked what was on offer myself and it would have been a lot better – and I often have done. I enjoyed the starter of Moo Ping – a couple of marinated pork skewers on a couple of bits of frizzy lettuce. But my girlfriend and I both had the “Three Delicacies in Garlic and Wine Sauce” (Served with steamed rice, fried rice or chips) for a main. She had the fried rice, I had the boiled. Her rice was yellow, mine was white but that seemed to be as far as the difference went. She said that no way was hers a fried rice. I have to admit, it didn’t look like it. As for the “Three Delicacies”, these were just strips of chicken, beef and a few prawns in a tasteless stir fry. The garlic and wine were unnoticeable. I have had plenty of takeaway oriental food in foil dishes and this was exactly like this, but not a very good one. My girlfriend was even more harsh about it. Where were the spices and oriental flavours? Some ginger and chili, perhaps? Think more in terms of a microwaveable ready-meal, not unpleasant but totally bland and uninteresting. So, just unlucky? A friend had the hot and sour soup which was disgustingly gelatinous. I had a spoonful and was glad I hadn’t ordered it. My girlfriend had the hoisin duck spring rolls which, once again, were bog standard takeaway food. For dessert I had the mango cheesecake, which tasted vaguely industrial, as if it had been bought in from Costco. Not disagreeable, just unmemorable. My girlfriend liked her “chocolate soil”. So, two set menus @ £36 each, one and a half pints of beer and a coffee: £90 with the service charge. Not cheap. Would I come back? Not unless the food had gained some sort of flavour and excitement because what you are getting here are some uninspiring versions of Asian classics served with a good view. If you go to Chinatown you can have infinitely better and more copious food far cheaper. Granted, you don’t get the view. There are plenty of restaurants in Liverpool and the only reason to visit this one, as far as I can see, is the location.

Food was lovely, staff are too, but the table was time limited to 90mins from our sitting down to a late afternoon booking. We didn't think that was a problem when booking the 60th celebration for December back in August, but realistically its just not enough time for drinks order to be taken we waited for service, then them to arrive, then the starters, then the mains to arrive and to eat. We all felt very rushed. It was busy at the bar area, its a popular place clearly, so there were no seats, so that was the end of our evening really, after paying £260+. We would come again but not if its time limited, its not enough time.

Stopped here for drinks around 2pm and really enjoyed it. The staff were really friendly and looked after us, even though we were only there for drinks. The views over the waterfront are lovely, proper relaxing spot to sit and chat. We didn’t try the food this time, just had a couple of drinks, but the menu looked decent. We definitely want to come back at night though, the place looks even better when it’s all lit up and the terrace would be perfect. Overall really nice atmosphere, great view, friendly staff, ideal for drinks.

Walking across the ferry plaza to Matou I wasn’t impressed. Walking past the Beatles statue towards a white concrete slab wasn’t my idea of a Chinese restaurant, however, having tried a few in Liverpool Chinatown an area in which the establishments gone from good to average to very disappointing, I was willing to give it a try. I am so pleased that I did for two reasons. The first and the most important was the food more of which later. The second was the view of the Mersey which for me. Gave the whole place an ambience an atmospheric touch which was very pleasing the panoramic windows gave a constant changing Vista like watching a play while you eat. The party of four chose between them the two set menus which we all agreed before eating covered all our needs. At the end the wonderful waiters packed away what we couldn’t eat and we had the following days food already done. The pictures I took, apologies for missing out on the Peking duck, which is the highlight of the meal in two ways. The first way was how beautifully presented and a wonderful it was to eat. The second was the only fault in the meal where the pancakes were on the poor side not too much that we could complain but not warm and a little bit under done. This is the only issue in the whole meal. It may not have been the Chinatown of old, but the food was excellent to say the least.

Overview: I went there on my birthday. Overall experience was decent and the place was really sophisticated, not noisy at all. The view was amazing as well, right on the river bank. Got billed around £105 which is on the higher side, but the experience was really good. The staff were really friendly right from the start. Drinks: Nothing fancy. Just got a double Jameson and a Pina Colada for both of us. Expensive, but you’d expect that. Starters: We got the dim sum basket and a salt & pepper calamari. The former was presented really well although the food kind of got stuck to the bowl we were served in. The calamari was amazing and quantity was enough for both of us to share. Mains: We ordered the chefs special chow mein and a singapore vermicelli chow mein with char sui. The serving size was unexpectedly huge and we literally struggled to finish it after the sumptuous starters. The taste was decent and nothing extraordinary for the price. Dessert: Truffle Cake and Deep Fried ice cream. Tasted pretty good!

Great atmosphere to celebrate special occasions such as graduation. The restaurant was bustling. The serving was quick, and the food served hot. However, the food did not meet my expectations. Some dishes were rather bland. However, the restaurant has a fantastic view overseeing the Mersey river and the Liver building. The prices are high. However, I can’t complain about the view you get. We will come back for cocktails but not food.

Visited here for a couple of drinks and to check out the views that this waterfront location obviously offers . The restaurant views are of the River Mersey but the outside patio had absolutely brilliant views looking back towards the Liver Building and surrounding areas. I expected to pay a premium price for this pleasure but was still a little shocked at a double Gin and can of Guinness for £16.

Beautiful outlook over the river whilst dining in and amazing architectural views from the outdoor seating area. Food and cocktails were fantastic. I would add though that we nearly missed finding this place, so more signage at the entrance would be better.
