My wife and I spent yesterday at the Barbican for the snooker. After the afternoon session, we decided to see what was available nearby. We didn't have a reservation, but we were quickly shown to a table. Food is excellent well prepared and presented beautifully. High praise to the owner and staff. Very welcoming little restaurant 2 minute walk from the Barbican. To sum up in one word, Bellissima

Toto's is a lovely little Italian just outside the York city centre, offering classic, home style cooking. The front of house team were fantastic warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive throughout our visit. The head waiter was superb! The food itself was delicious, with the pizza standing out as absolutely incredible. It’s the kind of place you find yourself wanting to return to again and again. Definitely give it a try!

My partner and I made a very last minute decision to eat at Toto’s after a long drive to York for the weekend and we were pleasantly surprised, we had been to Rome a few months before and it brought us right back! Proper Italian food, fast and amazing service, cute little restaurant and overall brilliant, simply can’t fault it. Thank you Toto’s!

Really disappointing. Booked for 4 as attending the theatre next door. Had read good reviews of a traditional family run Italians. Lots of pizza and pasta dishes and specials. Whilst deciding we were informed that the pizza oven was not working and no pizzas, garlic bread, bruschetta etc available leaving only pasta dishes and specials to choose from. We had no time to seek an alternative restaurant..2 hours before the show and a Sat night. The pasta dishes were very average, not a lot of flavour and the meatballs were similar to shop bought, not what I expected of an authentic Italian family owned restaurant. The special chicken in gorgonzola sauce was was small, with little flavour, couldn't taste the cheese, served with a side of fries and a sparse lettuce, tomato salad. Certainly not worth the £19.95 paid. The starters start from around £8, mains from around £16 for pizza/pasta and specials are more, desserts from £8..including the very average Toto's special ice cream. The service was ok but there was no real apology or even an offer of a discount or free drink to compensate for the very much reduced menu due to there being no working oven. Would not return. Very average and overpriced for what you get.

Toto’s in York is an enduring family favourite and a true local gem that’s never missed a beat in over 20 years of visits. Now that I live nearby, I’m lucky enough to go regularly - and it continues to impress every time. The food is consistently excellent, with the special mussel starter being a particular standout when available. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is always spot-on, with a friendly and attentive team who make you feel right at home. Just outside the city walls, it’s well worth seeking out if you’re visiting York - you won’t be disappointed.

Everything about our meal was perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I had a chicken special which was cooked to perfection and the tiramisu was the best I've ever had. The only problem was that we forgot to tip which gives us a good excuse to return as quickly possible.

Really enjoyed dining here during our mini break to York. The staff were all friendly. The atmosphere was wonderful, it felt homely and comfortable. The food was spot on, we had a starter garlic bread/pizza, and main courses from the pasta section. Freshly made and authentic. Will definitely be returning. Pre-booking is advisable, as there is limited seating. I would say it was well priced too, with the bill coming to just under £40 for a sharer starter, 2 mains, and 2 drinks (one of which was a wine).

Really lovely atmosphere, deeeeelicious food. We came up from Exeter and were delighted with our booking. We would have gone back Tuesday but they are closed... thoroughly recommend it, excellent.

Extremely well-run little Italian restaurant near the Barbican. Set out exactly as you'd expect, with a concealed view into the kitchen where the chefs beaver away to make cracking food in a short time without fuss. Served by great staff who make sure you are kept happy and content. Clearly owned and run by an Italian family and their close friends.

Great atmosphere and well decorated. The menu can be a little hard to read but having it themed like a newspaper is a nice concept. The pizzas very nice with thin bases. Desserts are very good too
