   We called in for an impromptu visit - desperately craving hot chocolate and very disappointed that the cafes in Irby closed at 4pm. We didn't expect to able to be able to have one at The Anchor - but how wrong we were! We were served by the delightfully personable Cameron who rustled up a delicious hot chocolate with cream for me and a Baileys version for my friend - both came with a tasty macaroon on the side. (So good that I ordered a second) We found a cosy spot next to the roaring fire and spent the the next few hours chatting. Cameron recommended snacks and wines to us and served us every time with a lovely big smile. We had only intended to pop in but the atmosphere and lovely service ensured a much longer visit. What an asset this gentleman is to this venue. He seemed to genuinely enjoy his work and had no problem dealing wiith two giddy females and all of our specific requests! As a result of this lovely experience - we'll be back soon.

   *Edited to add, after a brief and poor response from the management, it is safe to say I would not return nor recommend here. No attempt to investigate or rectify given the repeated failings and uneaten food, that were not dealt with appropriately at the time, and evidently not after either. Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you own them, apologise and learn. After having driven past several times we decided to finally try out the Anchor yesterday for my birthday meal, but sadly our experience was well below expectations. Being seated and drinks order was fine, the mojito was OK, but I wouldn't order again. It should be filled with mint, and a sprig for garnish. There was only a sprig for garnish so it lacked the green colour and correct taste. We weren't asked again if we wanted any further drinks. The starters, prawns and goats cheese. I had ordered the goats cheese tatin with whiskey glaze from the specials, however I received the goats cheese with sourdough. No one came to check on the meals, and as we were with our small children I didn't want to delay the meal so ate it regardless, it was fine just not what I had wanted. The prawns tasted overcooked and didn't have a pleasant taste. We both agreed maybe we had ordered wrong, and next time we would get different items. Our children had the pizzas and they seemed good, I had no complaints there! We had ordered the Sunday roast sharer board, which to sum it up was dry and chewy. I actually couldn't eat it and the server took away my full plate. We are both foodies, and love our food and finding new places. The chicken was so dry, the roast potatoes were chewy and unpleasant, the beef was dry and chewy, the pork was OK. I had such high expectations, but sadly left hungry. We fed back to the server that it was really disappointing and as clearly shown we couldn't eat it, my partner even leaving the extra cuts of beef and pork. We received an apology from the young girl who took our plates and provided the bill, but sadly that doesn't change the experience we had at over £100. We were not approached by the manager or a supervisor to further investigate or apologise. I don't know if there was a new chef on or a bad day, as it's sad to share such a bad experience on what was meant to be a lovely meal out for my birthday with my family. I really wish we had a better experience to share.

   Had the best time at the Anchor for Bottomless Bubbles. The food was amazing and the cocktails were quality. Well worth it. Just to top it off was the fab entertainment, I love a bit of live acoustic music. Lots to love about this venue, fab amazing people and wonderful atmosphere.❤️

   We hadn’t been to the Anchor for a while and decided to take advantage of a Premium Country Pub (app) “buy one main course, get one free” offer. The restaurant was busy (probably due to the offer) but relaxed, welcoming, warm and comfortable at the same time. We ordered king prawn, crab and chorizo pasta and a prime burger with a buttermilk chicken fillet added. (After pondering “beef or chicken burger?” for a while this was a great solution for only £3 extra.) The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Our complements to the management, the chef(s) and personally to Emily, Kerry and Cameroon for both going the extra mile while looking after us.

   We had a lovely lunch here today. Food was fantastic quality and staff really welcoming and helpful. The lunch menu is great value and I like that they have smaller dessert options available. Very well furnished and relaxing atmosphere. We were not rushed to place our order or for the table to be turned over quickly. We were able to relax with a drink first and courses were not rushed out onto the table. There's not many places we will stay for desserts/hot drinks afterwards but here we felt more than comfortable to spend the afternoon.

   The food was very good and all of our party enjoyed their choice. The service however wasn't the greatest. The young lady didn't exactly provide a service with a smile, far from it. When we asked her about a couple of dishes, she couldn't give us answers and made no attempt to find out for us. She proceeded to 'plonk' our drinks on the table. After the meal my daughter asked if they do green tea. The waitress responding "I don't think so". Fine if you don't offer a particular drink but I'd expect the staff to provide a definitive answer, and perhaps check for sure. Overall - Great food but the service needs improvement. Just general customer service was lacking.

   Food was nice, but the place tries a little bit too hard with presentation when the flavours and finish could be better - pork belly tasted well but wasn't as soft as expected. So was the lamb. The desserts were very sweet but lacked the depth of flavour. For the price you'd expect a top notch posh pub meal. This wasn't neither that or fine dining.
