   We booked a table on 12th October for Christmas Eve (even before their refit took place). We have been going on Christmas Eve since it was “Phoenix on the Hill”, so for many years. We booked a table for 5:30pm for 8 people and paid a £15.00 per person deposit. We arrived at 5:30 and two of our party were already sat on another table for 2, next to a table for 6. We queried why this was the case but were told we could either all sit on the table for 6 (impossible as 6 was already really tight, 8 would be impossible to fit) or they would have to sit on a table next to us. Not sure why this was the case when the restaurant only had 3 tables occupied including us, and we had booked a table for 8! The table for two could not join up as the pillar was in the way. We ordered drinks which arrived at 5:45pm. Holly then said she could set up the two tables of 4 which we could move together. We thought that was a good idea but she also said we would have to be out by 6:50pm. I said, well that is pointless as we haven’t even ordered or had prawn crackers yet, so we might as well stay as we are. It was at this point we were told we would also have to leave our table before 7pm! At NO point was this mentioned at the time of booking, which we discussed with Holly. Holly stated it would have been told to us over the phone. Obviously, this is a total lie and despite her not taking the booking she refused to believe us. I explained why would we come at 5:30 (they open at 5pm) if we had to be out at 6:50pm, having two kids with us we could have gone earlier as we didn’t want a very late night. At no point did we swear or was rude, but said we felt she didn’t care as she is leaving soon. I said, as we have to be out by 6:50pm don’t you think you should take our order (given we now only have about an hour to eat). Holly left to get a pen but came back and stated the owner is not willing to serve us and we had to leave! Clearly, she had gone back to the kitchen and said something as we had only spoken to her. To kick a family out when the mistake is that of the restaurant is appalling. We left and had a lovely Indian at Spice Lounge up the road who were very accommodating given it was Christmas Eve. The shocking attitude and service on Christmas eve from Choi Pin will not be forgotten. Clearly trying to fit two sittings in (5pm to 6:50pm and 7pm till 9pm) is pure greed, the restaurant was empty at 5:30 apart from about 2 other tables. The refit is also a joke, the bench seats around the wall are ok and work, but the chunky chairs and bench seats in the middle of the restaurant don’t allow them to accommodate seating as well as previous. Also, whoever thought buying narrow tables for a Chinese when you need space in the middle for food clearly made a mistake.

   Sadly, due to poor communication from the restaurant when booking our Christmas Eve table in November, we were told over the phone that a £15 payment was a deposit therefore 5 people was £75 in total. However, when it came time to pay the bill, we were informed that it was actually a ticket price and therefore would not be deducted from the final bill. This was disappointing and not what had been explained at the time of booking. There were five of us, yet we were seated at a table for four, leaving one person awkwardly positioned at the end, poor planning on the restaurant’s part, only 4 xmas crackers given! our table was near the door, which made it uncomfortably cold with people constantly coming in and out. Although the staff were polite and helpful, the service was slow and disorganised. The food was okay but nothing special. We were not even given prawn crackers for the table which was poor. The new tables and chairs also don’t suit the restaurant’s layout and feel out of place. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and sadly we won’t be returning.

   We had a very good meal there on spec. Just turned up Saturday Evening and they found us a table. Resturant full of local families celebrating. Not an exclusive place but exceptional food and attentive service. Excellent portion sizes . Try the crispy duck it’s great and the bill was very acceptable as well. Pleasant surprise .

   HAIR FOUND IN FOOD, ORDER MISSED Don’t get me wrong; the food was lovely however i did find a short black hair in my beef chow mein (very greasy but good). We ordered x2 beef chow meins, chicken balls, rice and chips. They forgot the rice and we ended up paying full price but was left rice-less

   It seems a husband and wife team run this place. One of the best local Chinese, i always use them. The service is fast and efficient. The food is excellent and reasonably priced.    Absolutely cracking food. Had no idea who Choi Pin were when I ordered but will definitely get their food again. Speedy delivery and just so tasty. We ordered way too much and then ate it all! Had guests over and we all thought the food was second to none.

   Lovely & clean got a table with ease, don't be fouled this was on a Wednesday evening. However did fill slowly. Service was still great even with the extra tables to be served. Food was tasty & hot. Started off with a share plater for 4 then onto the mains. Definitely going back for more
