Not quite the Kerala cuisine I was hoping for. I visited The Kerala in Caterham hoping to enjoy some authentic Kerala food, but unfortunately, it didnβt hit the mark for me. We ordered the Kerala Paratha, Kerala Lamb Curry, Calamari Rings Starter, and the Konchu Porichathu (prawns) Starter. While the meal was perfectly serviceable, the flavours were very mild and didnβt reflect the bold, spicy character of Kerala cuisine Iβm used to. In hindsight, the presence of British curry house staples like Balti and Vindaloo on the menu should have indicated that this place is more tailored to local English tastes. The only dish I enjoyed was the Kerala Paratha. I paired it with some leftover curry I had in the fridge and it worked brilliantly. Thatβs not a criticismβjust an observation. Itβs clear that the restaurant is catering to a different audience: those who are curious about the food of Kerala rather than those who grew up with it. If youβre from Kerala or South India and are hoping for something that reminds you of home, this might not be the place. But if youβre looking for a gentler, anglicised introduction to Kerala-inspired dishes, it might be worth a try.

Bit pricey compared to other Indian restaurants. Tried Prawns and chicken Biriyani. Even though the restaurant is named Kerala, the biriyani didn't taste like a Kerala biriyani, maybe north Indian. Average taste only

The Kerala serves good food with flavors that truly stand out. The dishes are well-prepared, with fresh ingredients and a perfect blend of spices. However, the service needs improvement. Additionally, there's no dedicated parking. You can park for up to 1.5 hours at the Waitrose lot behind the restaurant, which requires some planning. In summary, while the food is exceptional, be prepared for mediocre service and parking challenges. When asked about quantity of chilli cauliflower to the lady who served us just to check whether it will be enough for 4 of us as a starter she said βshe donβt count them β which we felt rude

First time eating here β¦ food was pretty decent , rather small portions for the price , the menu was basic and the restaurant was quite small / cramped β¦ The starters were ok and the main course was nothing to spectacular. 3 stars

I come here for the great authentic dosa's, which are huge. I haven't tried much else from the menu except a few veggie sides which have been tasty and fresh. Recommended! Friendly staff. The atmosphere is fine, a little quiet..

Very veird restaurant staff seem confused and could be bothered to serve even though we were the only customers. Food tastes like it had been pre made the chicken 65 was over cooked potote bhajia were literally 5 pices which is odd as most places will give a plate worth. The lamb Dosa was poor the lamb it self tastes chewy dont think it wasbfresh the dosa was think and the sambar had an odd taste. Overal very poor quality and expensive for what is on offer here
