Table too small for 4 dinner plates. Tea was only part full (after tea bag removed barely half a cup) and not hot enough. Food good. Am not used to ordering at the bar and paying as we go; that disrupted our meal out together. Also, prefer to park in car park. Good price, good food, friendly staff.
Christmas meal was superb and really nice. Only criticism I have was you felt really rushed by the staff inbetween courses. It would be nice to have more of a break before the next course is brought out but all in all the meal was really good.
I have visited this pub before for lunch and had pie and chips which were delicious. This time it was an evening visit and there weren't many people in so lacking a bit of atmosphere. The food was okay but nothing special. However, they forgot to ask us if we wanted dessert and when we requested the menu we were told the staff had gone home. But overall it's a lovely place to eat decent food.
We have just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with 50 guests at 'the Wisewood Inn 'having pre-booked their private function room downstairs ,which has shutters that open out on to the lovely terrace . Not only were we served up a delicious buffet of savoury and sweet fayre , from Alison and her super kitchen staff ,but were looked after the whole day by Sol at the bar. Friends and family travelled from St Albans , Cheshire n Rugby and praised the atmosphere , facilities and friendliness of the pub . A big thank you also to Leanne , Andy Oliver and Liam who were all involved in some way to making our day so memorable.
Call in for a mid week tea, and what a tea it was, expanding waist band needed, the mix grill was absolutely mega. The other meals were spot on and no complaints at all, very nice and very good quality. The beer was off the charts, I don't think I've ever seen a beer as clear and as bright as their pale ale. Stunning Top service, really friendly and welcoming.
If you are looking for a delicious home-cooked pie then look no further. This was superb and very reasonably priced. The selection of beers was great too. Well worth a visit
Excellent pub food. Portions are very generous with delicious authentic fresh ingredients and always served piping hot. Prices are really reasonable too. £12 for a pie and chips and it was fantastic. Almost everyone was ordering it once they'd seen the plates
Best roast dinner of my life - other than my Grandma's, but she has been gone 20 years so it's fair to say, this is a cracking Sunday Roast! You need to book yourself a table here, variety of meats on offer, friendly and helpful service (young lad with dark hair on upstairs bar today, in particular) and waiting staff were great too. Didn't have to wait long at all for food and it was quite busy when we arrived. Fabulous food, brilliant portion size and delicious sounding options of dessert menu - I opted for Red Velvet Torte. It was more of a Red Velvet Cake, gotta be honest, was wondering what a R.V Torte was going to be like - but was still happy with this tasty dessert. If the sun is out, get out in the beer garden. The views are great. Will go again next month with family.
With generous portions and varied menu which caters for Gluten intolerant diners we enjoyed our visit. Plenty of choice of ale and guests beers. Expansive views (when not snowing) with lots of outdoor tables.
