I have been visiting Tokyo Diner for over 20 years and everything stays the same. It is a good value, tasty, relaxed Japanese diner run authentically and always welcoming whether you are on your own, in a group, visiting in the morning or late at night. An institution and a solid choice on the edge of Leicester Square for great, simple Japanese food

Now that's what good food should be like. Amazing, warm atmosphere right at the entrance. Service so quick it'll leave you confused. The food is to feed your soul. The beef soup is just, I can't put it in words. It may have rained straight from the heavens. The chicken katsu don was so creamy! The complimentary tea is much appreciated in the cold weather. The nigiri was also such a delight. Highly recommend this place, they've earned me as a regular.

We were out fairly late around the Leicester Square–Chinatown area. We were looking for a suitable restaurant, but many were already closed, kirchen closed or looked empty. Luckily, we ended up at Tokyo Diner. Even though we didn’t share much of a common language, we quickly got a table upstairs and bottles of Sapporo beer to quench our thirst. My Chicken Katsu Curry was tasty, and my companion’s Udon noodle dish was excellent. The restaurant has a slightly worn feel, but it was clean. This is a place that serves good Japanese food at a reasonable price.

Small Japanese restaurant that feels like stepping into Japan, really authentic and tastes like homemade. Service is friendly and they give you free green tea, which is one thing I really miss from Japan, I love drinking green tea with my meals!! I want to try the curry next time. The tofu was delicious.

Tokyo Diner is one of my favourite places in London! I’ve never tried better Japanese food in my life (haven’t been to Japan YET)! You simply cannot visit Chinatown and not visit this hidden gem! Delicious food! Absolutely gorgeous and very generous portions too! You get complimentary tea with the meal and it’s delicious too! I recommend trying the plum wine as well - it’s sweet, refreshing and so easy to drink! Everything I tried from the menu was amazing, but my favourite was Tofu Katsu Curry! I can’t wait to go back!

From a person who stayed in Japan for 4 years: So so very authentic! You can find local restaurants like this everywhere in Japan: the spacing is right, the staffs are very polite, the food is rustic, the menu is unassumingly, and even the table grease is just the right amount. This is as good as it gets in London. As soon as you see some "fusion" or "inspired" restaurants with modern design and a big menu -> run. That is not it. Not the taste nor the experience. This is it.

Authentic, homemade style Japanese food. Ordered the chicken katsu curry which was hearty and perfect for the winter. Really delicious, mild curry with crispy katsu chicken and a really generous portion of rice on the side. Service was friendly and quick and I enjoyed the overall homey Japanese interior decoration and atmosphere. Didn't have to wait too long in the queue fortunately and would definitely come back very soon!

Authentic Japanese food, not expect wide variety of selection but it’s really the traditional small scale restaurant I have tasted in Japan. Good food, good service, good location. Awesome: Japanese tea and big portion is free. P.S: all if the staff can speak Japanese and English.

Super cute restaurant in Chinatown. My friend and I arrived at 10:50 pm and were able to order before the kitchen closed at 11 pm. Service was quick and efficient, and the food was delicious. They don’t accept tip, which was peculiar and interesting. I would recommend!

Very awesome and casual traditional Japanese diner in the corner of the busy China town district. If you’re looking for less of a noisy environment this is the perfect place! Plenty of seating through 3 floors and customers are seated spaciously throughout. Lovely views of the lanterns and the high street. Staff was very helpful and polite. They were able to recommend us things and guide us through the menu well. We preferred katsu curry tofu soba, katsu egg sauce with pork and rice bed and seaweed salad. Everything was empty when we left the table! The only sad thing is that they didn’t have takeout boxes. Beware that they also don’t take tip and have a cashless policy. Excellent place and highly recommend!
