We went to Wards in Bakewell yesterday Wed 5th February with the intention of buying our grandchild properly measured shoes as we have done in this shop for the last 5 years for both our g'children. When we got to the back of the shop, we were greeted with an unemotional ''We only do children's school shoes now.'' Not, ''I'm sorry you've had a wasted journey. Your nearest Wards is Chesterfield.'' (I had to ask that question). So as our g'child had already settled in the chair for her fitting I asked for her to be measured. Afterall, we'd come in good faith to buy. Begrudgingly, the measure was sought and used quickly and inefficiently, and we were given an 'approximate' sizing...so approximate that it was exactly the same size as the shoes we were hoping to replace. She then had the gall to tell me that her sizing was only relevant to Clark's shoes...i refrained from pointing out that it wasn't relevant at all as it was clearly inaccurate! We won't be returning, despite having a 'loyalty' card, despite living in Bakewell even when we need school shoes. MOST DISAPPOINTING
The Wards shoe shop staff were excellent, doing a proper shoe fitting and ordering the colour my mother was looking for. There was a delay by the supplier and the staff kept me updated throughout and even included a polish as an apology for the delay. Lovely staff, great service and why buying from a physical shop is always my preference to just an online retailer where possible. The boots are also the most comfy my mother has ever had
Local shoe shop, although they didn't have the right size shoes they contacted a partner branch and had the shoes two days later.

They have a brilliant selection of mens shoes- good quality shoes and brands, good prices, and excellent helpful and understanding service. I only buy shoes every 2 or 3 years, but I bought 3 pairs today.
