Went to the pub only - like something from League of Gentlemen! Regulars were openly hostile - avoid - plenty of decent places in Selby and this isn’t one of them.
Honest review Stayed here for the first time Saturday 20th September 2025 stayed in room 6 Impressed with the room for the price we payed the room had plenty of tea, coffee, milk with large cups. Rooms were excellent value really spotlessly clean with comfy bed and pillows. Shower was warm with toiletries. Can be noisy on a night with the bar being allocated below rooms but this is to be expected as it is a pub and it did not dampen our experience. Overall cannot fault would stop here again
First time i stayed in this hotel an it's absolutely amazing. Lots of lovely people good atmosphere. My room was so nice and clean. Beverley make my room soo comfortable and clean, thank you beverley! Paige was very good behind the bar, she looked after me for the full night i was in there, musicwas great! I look forward to coming here again, thank you for a great stay at the bay horse!
I loved this old school pub before its refurb, and although it’s still nice it has lost a lot of its charm. Went in recently. The service was awful (too busy chatting, no acknowledgement, in her own world, didn’t even look at me while handing change and didn’t acknowledge my ‘thank you’), plus the better bucket style comfy seats have been replaced with uncomfortable tall dining room chairs. Too many backward steps I’m afraid. But above all, it was the indifferent impersonal service that scores the lowest points.

I stayed here for 2nights as was working away and can honestly say it was very nice place to stay at, the room i stayed in (3) was very relaxing and cosy, bed very comfortable and warm and clean, all the staff are very nice and friendly, would definitely recommend, and will be back again soon.
We booked a month in advance, was told no need to worry about a booking confirmation when we asked, only verbally told about our booking, called 1 week before to confirm booking and dates, was assured our booking was in place and correct. Arrived on the day only to find out our booking was for the incorrect dates and were now stranded hours away from home with 2 children in the car. Giving 1 star as they did try find if their other hotel had space, it did not.
We stayed here for 2 nights for my birthday celebrations and what a lovely time we had! We read a few reviews (as you should) and some say about noise etc but honestly we didn’t hear a thing ☺️ and we were placed right above the pub area! Small rooms but very cosy so it was perfect for us! Great staff too!! Definitely recommend this place and we will be back soon hopefully!
