Food was lovely and the staff helpful. One of our party is Vegan and she commented on the choice of plant based options available on the set lunch menu so bravo! it is often difficult to find a mainstream pub that caters for vegans so well we will be back I have no doubt

We had been trying to come here for Sunday lunch for a while, being new to the area we’re trying various establishments for our favourite meal of the week. The ads for this place looked fantastic but I wish I’d read some reviews as unfortunately the Sunday roast was the worst I’ve ever had. We had a sharing roast for two, which sounded like great value and my daughter had roast chicken. However, first of all, nothing was more than room temperature. The β€œroast” potatoes had barely seen any form of oven, soggy one side and burned the other, we received no horseradish sauce but no staff member returned to check if we needed anything. The Yorkshire puddings were good, the gravy was tasty however it was not bottomless as we received one small portion each and nobody returned to our table, as previously noted. We received one chicken portion each, soggy skin and barely warm, one small slice of belly pork each which was very tender, and a small slither of roast beef. The crackling was so hard I didn’t dare try another piece for fear of dental bills. It was very thin and straight and didn’t feel like it came from the pork we were eating. The veg was average, the roast carrot and parsnip were again soggy and undercooked. All in all, we won’t be returning. It’s a shame because it’s a really beautiful pub, our dog was welcome and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I hate to complain but I did feel I needed to give an honest review as it wasn’t a β€œcheap” meal.

Trio Roast Triumph (Almost!) I have to give this place a glowing review for the sheer quality of their Trio Roast and starters. The meat (beef, chicken, and pork) was cooked to absolute perfection – tender, succulent, and full of flavor. The roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the Yorkshire puddings were enormous and airy, and the vegetables were cooked just right, retaining a lovely bite. The gravy was rich, deep, and plentiful. Every single element of the roast was a solid 5 stars. It was a truly exceptional meal, and one of the best roast dinners I've had in a long time. The portion size was also very generous, offering excellent value for money. However, the service, while friendly, had one persistent flaw. We had to ask three separate times for the bread sauce, which is, in my opinion, a crucial accompaniment to a roast chicken dinner. Each time, we were assured it was "on its way," but it took a considerable amount of time to finally arrive. However I’d said the bread - pate ratio isn’t great small slice of bread to a pot of pate. Anyway If not for the bread sauce debacle, this would have been an absolutely flawless experience. Despite this, the quality of the food was so outstanding that I still have to give it a 5-star rating. I would highly recommend this roast dinner, and I will definitely be returning – hopefully with bread sauce arriving promptly next time!

Lovely warm and welcoming place. Staff really helpful and friendly. Atmosphere was great and we really enjoyed the food. First time visiting due to receiving a food voucher but will definitely come again! Free parking as well which is always handy.

My husband took me to The Castle for my birthday as we had heard the food was really good. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with the food overall. We ordered the smoked haddock fishcakes, which sounded lovely on the menu. When the dish arrived, the two extremely thin fishcakes lacked any amount of haddock, and were mainly mashed potato and were quite soggy in texture. My husband ordered the half chicken, which was a very small chicken. One small breast and a small leg which my husband said was so over cooked it was dry and chewy! Both meals came with fries, but not homemade fries, as one would expect for the price of each meal (Β£15.50 fishcakes & Β£15.75 chicken). Neither dish came with any veggies which were extra. We were going to order dessert, but decided to just go home. I think that overall the food portions should have been better for the prices charged. It was quite obvious that both meals had been heated up in the microwave, hence the soggy fishcakes and overcooked chicken, as the food was very hot, just really poor quality. Such a shame as we won't be returning!

The food is never a let down, always tasty, lots of choice and the menu changes with the seasons. It is the setting I love the most. The country home cosy vibe and wonderful outdoor seating area looking out onto the bowling green.

We took up the offer received to try the winter menu. We both had the chicken & brandy pate, and both really enjoyed it. For our mains we had chicken buttermilk burger and the salmon. My wife said the salmon dish was outstanding with the flavour. My chicken burger was very well cooked & tasty. We have always enjoyed our visits to The Castle and will continue to do so with the quality of the food we had yesterday. The staff are very pleasant & courteous, thank you
