Called in the brown bear last night, packed great atmosphere, this is and has always been a great pub, unfortunately can only go in now when we visit Sheffield, first time I went in was 1961, the biggest downside to this pub is it's not closer to where I live,

Very atmospheric – dark corners, dark décor, so cosy! Boo hoo, we did not experience the charms of the landlady/landlord when we there. Wonder if they rely on clueless Sheffield visitors to subsidise their ...erm..? By golly, there really is no need to be courteous to non-resident punters who only visits Sheffield once? twice? Glad to see the back of us and likewise. Yes of course I was pointed to the no digital rule notices, silly me thought the landlords had a sense of humour. It was reassuring to see that the till was digital and you can pay your bill with your phone – hmm. Told it was to encourage people to have conversations instead – wonderful…. The pub was soon ‘filled’ (lol) with an elderly man and an elderly woman who adorned each wall with their impassive expressions and cheerful downward smiles. The other two walls were occupied by another man (the Fantasist) and ourselves. Service: the genuinely sweet barman obliged and chatted until my husband came back from the washroom. Unfortunately the brassy Fantasist persisted in bragging at us until he realised we knew his tales were … just tales and then he went off on one. Oops time to leave quick smart! Fantastic little gem of a pub. The no phone policy is a great idea .

Nice old fashioned pub, that is competitively priced. Staff are friendly and approachable. Perfect for popping in for a drink if going to the theatre / crucible. No phones policy works well in my opinion - no risk of morons watching silly videos out loud on their phone, which makes for a nice atmosphere.

The dark mild is great value at £2.40. This pub is close to the Crucible. Perfect for get togethers.

Traditional pub, centrally located. Clean and nice decor. Very good service. Customers encouraged not to sit on their phones, which was refreshing.

This pub has gone to pot since the old landlady, and landlord departed,a few months ago,,it was a lovely place to go in for a nice pint and a cozy chat,,but since they left,,it's like the bankers draft,,undesirable,s selling their wares,,there's a tall man standing at the bar in the lounge,,when you go in,,he actually glares st you,,and it's not a nice feeling,,, wish these two would leave,,,humphrey has made a big mistake employing these two,,,as from today,,we won't go back in,while very they are there,,,

Am I allowed a book? All here for more social interaction however I was alone and was litterally looking at a map to see where I was climbing the next day. That so happened to be on a phone and the over passive aggressive land lady (i assume) told me no phones. This pub is very limited as its not welcoming and I would certainly not recommend to people exploring the local area by themselves.

A traditional man's pub if ever there was one. Cheap beer. A nice walk through town.
