   I was really looking forward to meeting our son for dinner at the Sportsman.We ordered our food at 6.45pm. We waited an hour with still no food but the promise we were 3rd in the queue! Our son had to leave to pick up his daughter, hoping the food would arrive by the time he came back in 20 minutes. By 8 pm we could wait no longer so asked for our food to be bagged up, the server did say sorry when he could see I was upset. When we unpacked the bags at home my meal was cold so had to be warmed up and my husband's curry was missing from the order, the last straw!!! Needless to say we won't be returning to the Sportsman anytime soon.

   This is my local pub and I come here every few days. The atmosphere is always just right, not quiet but not loud. Service is always great. Lewis is normally the guy that serves me for food and drinks. He is a very polite and a helpful guy who always makes sure everything is good with your food. His customer service is very good and he always has a smile. The food is good and well priced.

   Called in for a catch up with work colleagues, it was very busy but the service was excellent, staff very friendly and accommodating, Joe was very helpful in processing our orders and providing alternatives to suit the needs of the group. Would highly recommend for a dining experience. Thanks again Joe for being an amazing host you were very helpful in what appeared to be a very busy and stressful time. 5 star professionalism and customer service!

   Visited as a big family group last week as a joint birthday celebration. Food was lovely - great quality favourites for a reasonable price. The atmosphere was perfect - not too loud (eg background music) for members of the party with hearing problems. The staff were lovely with the landlady going above and beyond to make us feel welcome (candles on dessert and singing for birthday children) without being at all intrusive. Would definitely recommend and we will be going back soon.

   Work Christmas Dinner for 20 people. Mixture of the festive menu and normal 2 or 3 courses. Everyone enjoyed their meals, although on the Turkey Dinner several people said that the roast potatoes weren't cooked properly. Not enough to spoil the enjoyment though. Special mention to Jo who looked after us wonderfully, so thanks to her. The majority said we need to book again for our next event.

   Really friendly welcome, landlady is nice & chatty. Ordered 3 courses from daytime menu. Food is tasty, well presented & portions are a good size. I've been before for drinks but this is the 1st time I've eaten here. I was fit to bust after my meal. I really enjoyed it & will definitely be back again. Thanks to all the staff at The Sportsman

   Went as a group for Sunday lunch. Service was very slow. The food was truly awful, the Sunday Roast pretty much inedible. Meat was tough, gravy was just brown water, veg chewy. I don’t recall ever having a worse Sunday roast. The carrot soup also had the consistency of water. The medium rare steak came well done. The two stars are for the place itself, which is quite nice.

   Excellent pub, perfect for calling in after a walk in the Peaks. Good selection of beers, open fires and dog friendly. The food is great too. We had some chicken wings with hot sauce and sharing nachos... Both were fantastic, the wings were some of the best I've ever had. The bar staff are lovely to top it off. Highly recommended!
