My husband & I called to Espanol for our wedding anniversary after reading the reviews. It was our first time here & sadly probably the last. Although the food was nice, it was served on icy cold plates. We arrived early, without a reservation & ordered a few tapas dishes. We ate the food with our coats on as there was no heating on, so it wasn't a very pleasant experiences. We decided to leave, due to being cold & asked for the bill. We paid in cash & embarrassingly had to ask for our change.

We visited last night for a birthday meal upon recommendation. Cannot fault the food. It's tasty and well priced for what is offered. The exception to this is the bread. £5 is very expensive for the portion sizes. Unfortunately, the management of service (not waiting staff - this is important; they were fine and friendly) was a big let down. We had ordered a paella in advance, and confirmed this the day before. Upon arrival at the restaurant (we arrived 10 minute earlier than booked), we confirmed with the team that we had ordered a paella. Due to human error, we were notified one hour later that there had been a mix up in the kitchen and we had to wait another 25 minutes for it to come. If not, it would be boxed up (due to the restrictive 2h table policy they have in place). Eventually (and perhaps predictably) the paella did not arrive after their extension. It had been 1h 35 minutes since it was ordered (even though it was booked in weeks in advanced, and rung up the day before, and confirmed upon our arrival). At this point, we decided to leave. The shift manager was understanding and eliminated the paella from the bill, as well as offering us a free drink and a good (and much appreciated) discount from the bill. We accepted the offer. He asked us if we would like to take the paella anyway since it was ready to be dished. I accepted (other members of the party left). I waited near the bar for an ADDITIONAL twenty minutes while the paella never came. It felt quite humiliating to wait at the bar, and this was the worst part of the whole evening. In the end, I just left. It was 8.25pm at this point (1h 55 minutes into our allocated 2h) and it was very clear that there wasn't ever any paella. So, in sum, yes - food is good. Staff are lovely. However, it's clear that there is are recurring managerial issues as I am not the only other person to bring this up. Maybe once is a "human error", but when these errors pop up frequently, perhaps its the greed of the owners who understaff their business and won't allocate much needed resources to manage client flow.

Thought we would try the restaurant as we are fans of Spanish food. Very quaint almost Spanish village setting, which was nice. When we arrived the table wasn’t ready and we were invited to sit in the bar area. Staff were apologetic on the wait. We waited some 20 minutes for drinks though, which was disappointing given we ordered two bottles of wine which ought to be straight forward. We were brought some bread and Ali oli, however the bread wasn’t warmed, which was a little disappointing. The food on the whole was good, although some dishes lacked seasoning. The Ox Cheek was fantastic. The service was however lacking. We had to seek the attention of the staff a number of times for additional drinks and dessert. The dessert was brought and we were not provided anything to eat them with, nor was the table cleared of our mains dishes. Staff were too busy kneeling down behind the bar on social media and making each other alcoholic drinks, cleaning and stocking the bar and not at all concerned with or attentive towards customers. Overall, food was good, service very poor. Worth a visit for the food, but be prepared to be disappointed on the service front.

Update: went back again Mar 2023 still blown away by the quality of the food served here. Really cannot say enough good things about this place. Found this absolute gem last night .. went with the other half for a spontaneous date night .. couldn't have picked a better place .. we ordered 7 dishes from the tapas menus and we were not disappointed. All dishes were served piping hot and tasted amazing. We had the stuffed peppers, battered chicken, a chorizo, potato and egg dish and black pudding with feta cheese just to name a few of the dishes .. now I'm not a fan of black pudding it was the other half that ordered them but I tried it and it was one of my favourite dishes of the night. Staff were friendly, helpful and gave good recommendations. We will definitely be going back there soon I hope

Visited on the 21st Dec. with 2 other friends. Had starters , main and drinks. Restaurant was cold with little ambience. Starters were average and the draft Estrella was flat and not kept well. We had Paella for 3 costing nearly £40, the portion was small, barely enough for 2 persons containing little Chicken and Chorizo. Unfortunately, cannot recommend.

We have drove past quite a few times and I must say the front looks very uninviting, which is why we haven't booked. however the food was 1st class absolutely delicious. Only downfall regarding food was everyones wasn't delivered to the table at the same time. Really good value for money though and great portion size . If the owners put a little more effort into the appearance of the outside they would in my opinion get more custom , neglected plants and weeds ,I understand that to some my comment about the front may be petty, but how the outside looks can reflect on the inside .

First things first, the aioli was the absolute highlight of the meal - it was incredible! We eat it quite frequently in my house and my wife is an expert at making it and this is the first time I’ve ever considered a restaurant to be on par with that - amazing! The calamari was nicely battered and crisp, the Spanish tortilla was wonderful, dense and flaky and the chorizo and clams in white wine sauce was equally flavorful. I’m glad I ventured out of the hotel for this meal.
