   I dislike all the other pubs on the triangle because they are too poncey, this is not poncey at all. It's a traditional, no frills boozer. So it's a big shame that the price of drinks is just as expensive as all the nearby gastropubs. This means it loses its USP so I'm going to have to swerve it in future.

   Really good, old school pub. No pretence, no nobs, no shoreditch type helmets. A locals pub it seems, subtle art deco styling inside. Hasn't been refurbished in years and all the better for it. Well priced beers too, a few ales on tap and the regular lagers. Went in on a random Tuesday, they had an open mic poetry night on. Actual people speaking, listening and not engrossed in their phones

   When I speak to people about pubs in Crystal Palace this watering hole never comes up in conversation and I was on my way to another boozer up in Gipsy Hill. As I walked up Westow Hill I glanced across the road and locked eyes on the Royal Albert and I thought to myself; that pub has got qualities that delight the eye so I popped in and treated myself to a pint of timothy Taylor’s brewery. As expected it was friendly locals pub with a couple of screens dotted around for the football and I even had a lovely chat with one of the locals while I enjoyed my pint. Moral of the story don’t be afraid to try somewhere new!!

   Best pub in Crystal Palace! It’s not a newfangled yuppie bar or gastropub, it’s a good old fashioned true-to-word pub, and I love it. The guv’nor is a gem who’s been here 22 years and the original features - him included! - are classic pub. 11/10
