Referred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital for my daughter’s tongue tie, we were given advice that it may take 3-4 weeks for an appointment but it was given to us the next day which is incredible. We were welcomed by extremely friendly staff at the outpatients desk and immediately seen by the ENT team who couldn’t have done more. A wonderful hospital, brightly coloured, with the epitome of perfect NHS staff.

In the middle of night, took my 12 year son with severe ear ache . I decided to take him after trying 2 hrs and paracetamol along with conservative management with no relief. After more than hour of waiting when he was attended, they considered it as very least bothered just gave prescription for ear drops which could be available next day at pharmacy and brufen syrup stat only. We left hospital ,next day went pharmacy and they didn't supply ear drops saying cannot give as its only in one ear. Prescription was taken back by the pharmacy. What kind of treatment especially when a kid is in pain the hospital is providing? The system which they assess and the treatment provided is horrible and unacceptable. Whoever read this , might raise a question why I didn't claim it at same time. I didn't want to fight at the time when he was struggling with pain and myself I m a healthcare employee. Dont want a argument at that time. I believe I behaved with respect and dignity to the healthcare personnel who attended us. But if this comment is noticed kindly requesting not to ignore patient coming at middle of night. The reasons will be genuine. Nobody wants to go to hospital middle of night leaving their sleep time.

When I was at work I received a call from my sister telling me in panic I need to leave work due to my 2 year daughter being seriously ill. Thankfully my boss let me go. When I got out of work. I got in the car and told my sister to drive to children a&e. When running up with my daughter I booked in urgent for my daughter to be seen. The consultants and staff didn’t listen to me when my daughter lives 24 hours and my mum spoken out too much. The consultants referred my 2 year old daughter to the social services and the police. The consultants told my mum that I can’t speak to my husband and have banned him from home until further notice. The police and the social services questioned me about my personal life and how long we have been together. They discriminated me against my autism as I am a straight forward person to speak the truth. By they didn’t believe me and the consultants were rude and spoken over the top of my voice as I’m the mother of my child. What was the point then for me to tag along to the hospital if I was going to be treated like this?! Plus I am pregnant with my second baby and the staff didn’t care on the ward about giving me food when I am carrying a unborn baby to feed aswel as me. Now child protection is in place on my 2 year old daughter and especially on my unborn baby too when he/she is born. I got patronised by the child coordinator within the conference meeting and They want me to do a revise autism parenting on my child and unborn baby again. When I already have done it when I was in a mother and baby unit. Plus I had to pack in my job away too and say I can’t come back now due to my daughter needing care. How else will I survive on benefits form the government cutting the money short and the cost of living crisis ongoing and all threats to take off me. Especially my family are refusing to help me with my bills too. Now I am 15 weeks pregnant and my husband not here. I’m doing all the work on my daughter and taking care of my pregnancy no thanks to this hospital. We taken my child here for help not to cause so much chaos. My neighbour 2 year old granddaughter has fallen down a garden stairs and broken her hips unable to walk and do activities for 6 months and she wasn’t referred to social services and police for child protection. This is disgusting to discriminate people against their disability especially when we are told by the chancellor to go in to work whilst cut to the benefits on the cost of living crisis.

My 2 year old niece had 2 febrile like seizures yesterday 1/11/2025 due to high temperature and not feeling well. Called ambulance and they agreed that it’s most likely a febrile seizure and she should be admitted to be monitored and tested. However at the children's hospital the doctor said its "nothing to worry about” as he disagreed about the seizures and said dont come back again even if her temperature is 40. If it last over a week then think about coming back. The kids have been ill for over a week already. We wouldnt have taken them otherwise. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING thing to say from a doctor. I am sickened to hear such words especially as it used to be a very very good hospital. What is the point of a children's hospital if they dont want to care for ill children and do half hearted jobs. They want children to deteriorate and/or potentially have fatal consequences before they launch nonsense inquests which nothing gets done. Absolutely despicable. I am appalled at the current state of the nhs. Lets not forget in recent years there has been many claims of negligence causing deaths due to incompetence of the staff Sheffield children's and they brush it under the carpet. Something needs to be done ASAP at this place. Doctors need training again or need to be laid off. Absolutely clueless. How a doctor can say "dont come back” even if the temp is extremely high, is absolutely vile especially when children are severely ill. UPDATE 2/11/2025 she was sent to gp today and they have called an ambulance in emergency as she is floppy and unresponsive. DISGRACEFUL DOCTOR SHOULD BE SACKED

I recommend this hospital to everyone. My daughter had her tonsils removed. The doctors were very nice; everything was thoroughly discussed before the surgery. The consultation with the anesthesiologist also went well. Everything was explained, and the staff was excellent; there was nothing to complain about. After the surgery, my daughter had to stay overnight for observation. The nurses were excellent; they take excellent care of their patients. We are very pleased with the care at this hospital.

We are so lucky to have this specialist Children’s Hospital in our city. They are absolutely brilliant, the staff are wonderful in every department and the hospital itself is so welcoming and beautifully decorated. I hope not to visit again, as obviously I want my children in perfect health, but I know that if we do need to visit, the children will be looked after, cared for, welcomed and safe. This hospital is a credit to us all

Went to A & E as my 3 year old was in pain and had swollen tonsils like Ive never seen and a severe headache, where he was holding his head in pain. Saw the Triage Nurse straightaway however she put us down as low priority and we ended up being seen after a 9 hour wait, yes, NINE hours in a Children’s A & E, they Apparently it was due to staff shortages. When we first cane in the waiting time was shown as 3 hours & 30 minutes, and 2 & a half hours of waiting, the waiting time jumped to 6 hours, and thats what it stated throughout our 9 hour wait, when they should have changed it again to state that it was now a 8 or 9 hour wait. Alot of other families were seen before us even though they came hours after us and had children same age as my child, I understand that some kids maybe more ill than mine, but 9 hours to see a doctor, and this was us coming in at 10.30 pm. Fuming wasnt even the word. Sheffield Children’s hospital’s other departments are outstanding but A & E was a joke.
