A busy youth hostel close to the river and with easy access to riverside walks into town, quick access onto cycle paths, and to public transport. I visit regularly the cafe, value for money food, a relaxing place to spend time. The staff are always helpful and polite.

My son has just returned from the most amazing school trip to the YHA York. I had the pleasure of accompanying them on the trip and cannot speak highly enough of the staff. All the staff were beyond fantastic especially Hollie, Michael and Tempest. Their care and attention to detail with the children was incredible. The other staff members who worked the front desk and cafe couldn’t be faulted. Nothing was too much trouble and they all worked so hard to keep the entire place running smoothly and clean. We had fantastic food which was great value for money and the coffee was as good as any coffee house. Thank you all for giving us a wonderful few days.

A bit out of town but a nice manageable walk through quiet neighbourhoods and a beautiful park to get to the city centre. Food offerings on site looked good, prices quite high for both accomodation and f&b. Self catering option on site to make meals was appreciated and well used.

YHA are traditionally out of town, good location. Bus 2 takes you into town, or it's a 30 min walk into town - go along the river. We had a private room for 5, spacious, could have done with some chairs and a table (plenty of space)? We were near the kitchen, we could comfortably cook and eat in kitchen or common area. Fairly well appointed small kitchen, pots pans cutlery etc and working stoves. Good bar and food area if you didn't cater for yourself. Great stay, plenty of families doing similar to our party of 5.

Amazing place to stay ✨️ Fantastic welcome and information at check-in. Room was spotless and the self-catering facilities are impressive. Lovely bright comfortable shared space with lovely areas to sit and eat, indoors and outside. We will definitely be back! A huge thank you for running such a lovely safe space for families who need to self-catering. Location was perfect too.

It was my first experience in a hostel and I was skeptical about how good the rooms are going to be and how comfortable I will be. But this hostel was beyond my expectations. I felt safe and comfortable and the services were excellent. Definitely the best prices as well. I would say for the price I got luxury treatment.

15 minutes walk from York centre. A large hostel with good facilities. You have to be open to the youth hostel experience. It's more basic than a hotel but you have more opportunities to meet people. Friendly and helpful staff. We got a a very good value for money deal on overnight accommodation and a breakfast. Will go back

This is such an amazing hostel. Amazing rooms that are well maintained and everything is just clean and tidy. Worth all the money u will spend of this. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They do have food option there but we ordered takeaway and had it at the hostel. Best part is how quiet and neat and tidy they are. Incredibly well maintained hostel and I will definitely be staying at YHAs others branches in the future. I have stayed at other hostels as well but YHA is so far my favourite. They do have pool table and a lovely launch area. Would recommend 10/10.

Does what it says on the tin. Perfectly good youth hostel, with very friendly staff. The food is OK - my pizza was a bit bland but filled a hole. Breakfast is great value. Good secure bike storage but a long way to carry my bikepacking bags to the room. My main issue is the beds. In this day and age, and with the competition of Air BnB, I think its reasonable to expect a decent bed, even in a youth hostel. The wipeclean vinyl mattress was way too soft and really not a great night's sleep. Plus was woken up at 3am by the sound of very drunk people having a long and intense discussion right outside my door. With no way of contacting reception in the room, it's put up with it or confront yourself in your PJs. Ear plugs a must. You know what you are getting at YHA, but I do wonder if they need to up their game a little if they want to attract an older customer?

We have been before a few times. Excellent location, 15minute walk by river to centre. Breakfast excellent value. Staff were run off their feet but always kind, efficient and helpful.
