I stayed here with my family in March 2025. Despite having booked and paid for the rooms in August 2024, via booking.com, when we phoned the week before staying we were told that theyβd βlost all their booking.com bookingsβ and that we needed to book and pay again, which we did. Weβve tried in vain to get someone (booking.com, the hotel itself, and our credit card company) to refund our Β£100-odd we are owed, with no success. I think itβs something to do with the hotel variously being called the Lodge or the Olive. The hotel owners couldnβt have been more unhelpful if theyβd tried. I donβt normally bother to leave reviews but while Iβm here Iβll say that the beds were uncomfortable, the shower the weakest and with the most variable temperature Iβve ever had the misfortune to use, and there were random holes punched in the walls of more than one of the rooms. The location was convenient purely because we happened to be going to an event nearby. As far as I can tell, itβs the only hotel in Barnby Dun - as they say βin the land of the blind, the one eyed man is kingβ, but to even describe this hotel as having one (functioning) eye is a stretch. Avoid if at all humanly possible!

On arrival they had βlostβ the key to my room. I had to be escorted in and out with a member of staff using master keys. At 9.30pm someone turned up to change the locks. I ran a bath to find the water stone cold. The handbasin also only dispensed freezing cold water for the duration of my stay. I tried during both evenings and both mornings but at no time was there hot water. They have refused to compensate me.

Room very basic, one towel for a double room with 2 guests, no toiletries not even hand soap in the bathroom, two very thin pillows no extras in the room. Doors bang when room next door shuts their door, walls had marks and chipped paint all over them. Was quiet though the night. Glad we only had one night there and didn't pay anymore but also not worth what we paid. Pictures are nothing like real life! No Internet

We were in the main building rather than the separate part & so it was quite noisy as the music didn't stop until 11pm. In room 2 the bed furthest from the window sank right down in the middle & was very uncomfortable for me as I have a bad back & need support. There was no soap in the bathroom for washing your hands so you had to tip it out of a bottle which was a waste as you ended up pouring far too much out each time. There was only one towel but we didn't realise until too late so we had to share. Despite all of that the room was a good size, the shower was good & there was tea, coffee & decaff which isn't always the case - could have done with more than one teabag mind

Location was lovely, very quiet even though your right on the road and lovely views from our room (above the pub). Was quiet enough to sleep with the window open all night and not be disturbed. Room was, okay. Needed a good lick of paint but clean and had everything we needed for 1 night. Although more pillows would of been nice since there's only 1 VERY flat pillow each. Be aware, breakfast isn't available. The staff we spoke to ended up bringing the rating down a little. We didn't go into the pub except to check in. Where we were met with a very put out young man, who seemed really annoyed to be dealing with us, even though the pub was quiet and no one else was at the bar. We also spoke to a female member of staff about a local taxi company we could call, we just got told to "google it". Overall we probably would book another room again since it's cheap (and almost cheerful), it has everything you need for 1 night, but wouldn't stay more than that.

I do not recommend The Lodge. I stayed for three nights while travelling for work. The room was clean and comfortable. However, facilities let it down. Bathroom light fixtures were faulty. I brought the issue to the attention of staff but nothing was done. The power cord for one of the bathroom light switches came away in my hand on my last night and the power shower failed to work on the morning I checked out. I expect any hotel or B&B I stay at to have an iron and ironing board for the use of guests. The Lodge had none. Overall, disappointing.

Comfortable bed, but low hum all night from somewhere outside. Dinner in the Olive nice but a bit pricey. Nice breakfast in the Olive. But be aware that although info in room says served from 7am it's actually not available until 7:30.
