We had Christmas Lunch yesterday. The food was excellent. The partridge Wellington was one of the best meals I have eatent. The traditional Christmas Lunch my wife chose was perfect. We visited whilst staying at Ye Olde Bell Hotel. Blacksmiths Arms had been recommended to us by family who has visited previously. I can see why, the food is amazing. Very tasty, plenty of choice - and all of the meals clearly don't disappoint. We had Beef Wellington and Fillet steak meals - absolutely beautiful. The seafood is also great here too. Such a beautiful looking pub, done very nicely. Clearly a very, very busy local - so had a fairly long wait to eat (although we chose to turn up early) Food was brought out pretty quickly. Waiters and waitresses very attentive. We would love to come back and try some other meals on the menu. The food was beautiful - and the place felt so festive. When we arrived. It took a while to be seen. The owner's brother blatantly ignored us until the owner's daughter showed us to our table. The young waitress and waiter were excellent the food was very good but that is where it ends. There is the owner who patrols the dining area like a militant. The only way I can describe her she came across stern with no graciousness more like a battle axe. She made you feel uncomfortable. When we finished our deserts she came over and said "have you had everything" and we replied yes thanks. Then she turned away, face like thunder and told the waitress to clear up quickly as we've got a lot to do. Now we had the table until 2:30pm and the time was 2:10pm. We were considering a coffee before our journey back to Sheffield but made us feel like we had to get up and leave. We were here for my mother in-law's birthday but made us feel we shouldn't be here. My wife said we will have a coffee so we did. Then as soon as the coffee arrived, we was told to take our coffee to the bar as they wanted to clear up. The time was around 2:23pm, in which we still had time to drink our coffee. We placed our coffee on the bar table. The owner's brother said to one of the staff to clear the coffees, I said no we are still having them. I asked the owner's brother if it was ok to place the coffee on the table and he yet again blatantly ignored me as he was pulling a pint no eye contact whatsoever. I then decided enough is enough and left. This place is run by a family who are tyrants and have no idea of interacting with their customers, only the locals, that I noticed. This place would not last a year in Sheffield but they can get away with it as there is no competition only the Mucky Duck but now closed. I feel for the young waitress and waiter as they worked tirelessly. If it weren't for them, I would have walked out before the meal, as I'm not paying mid/high prices for poor hospitality. We will not be coming back, it left me in a bad mood and the rest of the family, that is not what we were expecting for my mother in-law's birthday and this place is meant to be a 5 star hotel. This is laughable. 5 star should be impeccable service and food, more like a 3 star and that is being fair.The food is the only reason and the young waitresses and waiter that gives it a 3 Star.
A great pub and fabulous food. A great choice of fish & seafood also meat & vegetarian meals. The staff were all friendly, we were seated quickly upstairs and the surroundings were really nice. It's a large place but cosy at the same time. The 4 meals we had were really different and all really said it was the best meal we had all had in a long time. I'd seen reviews about the staff being rude but we did not have that at all. Really enjoyed it, will visit again.
We stayed the one night in their Farrier room. Total luxury, friendliness and professionalism from check in to check out. The room was stunning, well thought out and had quality items for us to use. The menu does look extensive and it took a while to choose something but what we ended up with couldn't be faulted, absolutely delicious. The owners are super friendly and unpretentious and their hands on approach topped off a lovely stay, we shall return.
I tend to be quite critical with comments because if people like a place they overlook faults and just give it 5 stars, or 1 if they hate it. This place really deserves 5 stars. The food is excellent, most of the service very good and someone has put a lot of thought into the details of the interior. I have been in the lucky position of eating in two Michellin starred restaurants this week. This place can hold its head up in the company of either of them. I'll be back as soon as I can and if necessary will get down on bending knee to ask the chef to make me some more of his Black Pooding Hash- a minor accompaniment to a pork dish, but absolutely fabulous! Go eat some before the menu changes!
1st visit under the new management, well modernised pub, with a good selection of wines and spirits, staff were pleasant and efficient. The menu is in 2 parts the standard varied menu in the form of a table menu and a much more varied chalk board menu, we had the Pork, beef cheek, mussels and Sea bass, all the food was cooked to perfection with good portions, unfortunately too full to try the desserts. This is definitely an “in” place to eat the food, atmosphere and service deserves a good 8 or 9 out of 10, booking essential £165 for 4
Everything was superb. Staff were attentive, friendly and professional without being intrusive which is lovely. All decked for Christmas which added to the lovely ambience We had lobster thermador and monk fish. Absolutely cooked to perfection and beautiful flavours and accompaniments. The bathroom was beautifully set up and clean. We had a lovely evening.
We used to be fairly regular at this pub, so we were really pleased when the place reopened after such a long time. Great to see some old friends, and to see the place open again. However, the landlord was extremely rude and completely incapable of giving any kind of welcome. I really can't understand why someone with such an obvious dislike for people has gone into the pub trade. A shame, as it's a nice pub.
Went for a meal at the weekend. The food is amazing, with the staff providing excellent customer service. The atmosphere was very comfortable, with plenty of room to navigate around. The wine was superb! The friends who I took are typically fussy, but they enjoyed every minute. Next time I will be staying in one of their rooms, which I’ve heard are also amazing. Overall, I could not recommend this restaurant more.
