“Warm welcome as we arrived. Had the lobster, salad and side of frys. It was well presented and absolutely delicious. Great selection of seafood with thick slices of good quality bread and butter. Finished the meal with a lovely chocolate brownie and ice cream. Lovely evening.”

“Had a couple of very good Sunday meals here. Nice pub with a separate dining room. Excellent food and you do get a lot. Also veggie friendly - if you mention that when you book the chef will do a special meal, which my wife said was very tasty.”

“This was the loveliest place ever. I went with family & expected to have a nice Chinese meal. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw fresh sushi & sashimi on the menu! I was in my element & will be spending as much time eating here, from the Japanese menu, as I possibly can!”

“Arrived without booking with a large group, staff found use an area without issue, they welcomed the dogs and said hello to the baby’s. The 2 members of staff were great! Good was nice too!”

“My daughter got married here recently and it was an absolutely amazing day. She married outside in the beautiful gardens which was so lovely. The food was absolutely delicious and the venue room looked fantastic. The evening food of pie and peas was delicious. The staff were lovely and very attentive to all our needs. We stayed the night the rooms very nice they were clean and the beds very comfortable and to round our stay off a great breakfast too.”

“Definitely recommended. Had simply an excellent meal, really outstanding. We were there on a Saturday evening -and the place was bustling and busy, but the food still came out in a timely fashion. No less than three different people came by to apologize for the wait (though again, I didn't think we were waiting that long), and to make sure we were OK. I also saw the waitstaff interacting with other customers -they make people feel welcome. No problems with the excellent service here. Just wish it was closer to where I live!”

“My grandads favourite restaurant, the daal palak and paneer palak are both amazing but the true stand out is definitely the parottas. Flaky, buttery and steaming hot they are a must have. My grandad always has the elms chicken, which changes every so slightly each time he orders it, a good sign that everything is made fresh and from scratch. Staff are friendly and polite, creating a homey atmosphere, a little gem hidden in Retford. Love this place!”

“This place is amazing the girls were fantastic and the man who had been there for 45 years. We were cold and tired and hungry and the service was the best we’ve had anywhere. Please go here the food is unbelievable and excellent value I’m so sorry the picture is not good but we were so hungry I couldn’t hang about but we are going back next week so that speaks volumes”

We thoroughly enjoyed the food here, trying oysters for the first time – we didn’t dislike them, but not sure they’re one of our favourite foods haha (no fault of the restaurant of course)! We also really liked the pork, duck and of course the desserts, especially the apple crumble tart. We have a lovely evening, meeting some other fellow food lovers, and would hope to return to this beautiful hotel to experience much more of what it has to offer. My only gripe was paying £12 for a large wine and £6 for a bottle of water!!”

“Truly excellent stay, great value for money the hotel is perfectly situated at the end of the high street so plenty of shops and places to eat nearby. The property is well maintained and beautifully clean. Retford is a cracking little town. Room came with a fan, only real downside is that the room was warm due to no air conditioning however we visited peak of summer.”

“This evening I phoned in and ordered for collection , the service was fantastic and the staff very friendly and chatty , but most of all the food for takeout was wonderful.”

“Perfect for a stop or a cheap room. Decent size, clean. A little dated but you don't expect much from a Travelodge. Only.tjing was I couldn't plug my phone next to the bed which was a little irritating but nothing I couldn't get over. Staff are friendly and easy to talk to.”

“Yeah it's a more expensive option but at least the food is always consistently great and has been exactly what we had ordered, it's always delivered on time too and by great drivers. Been ordering from here for years, never once had a bad experience. I do wish the twisted dough balls would hurry back though!”

“My friends and I went for a cooked breakfast. We had to wait as it was all cooked fresh but it was delicious. I picked up a cheese scone on the way out as they looked amazing but didn't get round to eating it until 3 days later, it was gorgeous. Can't wait until I go back. Thank you.”

“We have visited a few times for drinks but today was the first time we dined. The Sunday lunch was wonderful - better than anything else we've had in the area. Great staff lead by a fabulous host and the pub itself is lovely and in a good location. No hesitation in recommending this place”

“Visited several times for meals always cooked to perfection. Sunday lunch did not disappoint the pork just melted in my mouth. All the vegetables are fresh and served piping hot. Would definitely recommend. Staff are welcoming, friendly and nothing too much trouble”

“Gate Inn is a pleasant place to stay. The location is convenient, close to the main attractions. The rooms are clean and cosy, there is everything you need. The staff is friendly and attentive, always ready to help. Breakfast is tasty, with a wide choice of dishes. In the restaurant you can try local specialities. Prices are moderate. From the minuses - sometimes it can be noisy because of the proximity to the road. Overall, I recommend Gate Inn for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Excellent value for money.”

“Always top notch food and service. Great themed nights every so often. Recent family funeral at the Markham moor was the best selection of food for a funeral we have ever seen. Everyone in attendance was raving about the quality. Plenty of parking. Bar area for none formal dining and drinks.”

“We stayed the one night in their Farrier room. Total luxury, friendliness and professionalism from check in to check out. The room was stunning, well thought out and had quality items for us to use. The menu does look extensive and it took a while to choose something but what we ended up with couldn't be faulted, absolutely delicious. The owners are super friendly and unpretentious and their hands on approach topped off a lovely stay, we shall return.”

“EDIT: Went back with cash and the service and banter was top notch. Food decent too. Would recommend Heard great things about this place so drove up for big Friday tea for the family only to walk in and see 'Cash Only' sign. Chippy tea not cheap these days so didn't have enough in pocket to pay as, like most people, don't tend to carry cash these days. Will probably come back another time to try the food and leave another review then”
