Lovely hotel, friendly attentive staff, comfortable room with all necessary amenities, near the town centre. Breakfast was included, full english, continental with cereal, fruit, pastry, juice, coffee etc and alternative milk. All very enjoyable and no issues. Lobby and dining area were clean and well decorated for the Christmas period, as well as full of signposts for rooms and other locations. Bedroom was clean, bathroom was spotless with a shower that reached a good pressure. Hair dryer and iron included, as well as bedside lighting, television, and kettle. Relatively soundproof with no disturbances from outside even on the ground floor. The bed was stain free with no signs of spills, plenty of pillows, and a good night sleep. The only let down was a lack of bedside plugs. I would be very glad to return to The Rutland.

We stayed on 1st November to 2nd November, with our little dog Jack. We went out for a couple of hours and the evening reception staff where kind enough to look after Jack in reception. I am also vegan and they only supplied cows milk in the room. They were kind enough to give me a small jug of soya milk. The room was nice. It had an iron and ironing board, which was lovely.

Second time we have stayed here and will definitely come back. Yes, the rooms are dated and the hotel could do with a bit of a make over. However, the rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need. The breakfasts are great and we had a meal in the restaurant on 1 night which was good and reasonably priced. What the Rutland does really well is it's staff. Everyone we had an interaction with was so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble.

Third visit. Always friendly and helpful staff. Very accommodating. Only one hand towel for two visitors and although a note of this was taken by reception, no extra towel was given. Apart from that, good breakfast served by bubbly, friendly staff member.

Great service and a really nice room with all you need for a stay Room was a good size and clean and bed was huge and comfy. Full English breakfast was amazing. Plenty of cereal options as well. Reasonable location from town centre (approx 20-25 minute walk into town) bus stop nearby also with good service into town.

More on the depressing side. We stayed for two nights at the Rutland (2 doubles, one single). All in all the impression was more on the depressing side. Positive: the mattress was better than it looked on first impression, the bathroom was nice and quite new, the room was refurbished to some degree. Negative: the heater in the bathroom didn‘t work (very chilly) but most importantly: the whole atmosphere is dark and — I repeat myself— rather depressing. Can‘t say anything about friendliness. Interaction with staff was minimal. How the Rutland gets a four star rating is a true miracle. You can stay two nights if it is for the location (close to the university and the hospital). Otherwise, I would check alternatives.

Update on the parking fine A massive thank you to Ryan to helping with cancelling the parking eye fine. He went above and beyond to help after reading this review. Everyone just take note of the parking situation, it’s not worth the hassle/time/effort.
