I’ve been coming to this pub for a while and it has always been welcoming and easy to enjoy. However, everything has recently changed. There are no guest ales, they have all been replaced by a single brewery’s drinks, and within the last few days they haven’t replaced whatever has ran out so there is nothing to enjoy. A countryside pub has been branded and it’s not a good look, even in the toilets there are posters you cannot escape the name. There is no atmosphere anymore, the quiz that has been running here for multiple years has even moved to the only other pub in the village due to everyone else also having the same idea. The staff have always been lovely however the familiar faces have now disappeared and there seems to be someone new quite often, most of them are respectable and you can’t fault them for doing their job. It’s just a shame the pub has been chosen to become an advertisement.

Ah yes, the famous “new beer.” You’d think they’d discovered gold the way it’s been plastered across every wall and window …inside, outside, anywhere there’s a bit of space left. Feels more like a cheap bar on the Vegas strip than a village local. Shame the posters have more personality than the pub itself. The locals tried to say something, over and over again, about the beer, the changes, the atmosphere. Nobody listened. So they stopped talking and started leaving. Now the people who made the place what it was are gone, and funnily enough, so is everyone else. Tuesday quiz nights used to be heaving, people having to stand… laughter spilling out the doors. Now you’re lucky if there’s enough people to make a team. The buzz has died, and all that’s left is the echo of what used to be. There’s a new face behind the bar every other day, and the latest one’s got an attitude that could curdle milk. Never seen her before, and honestly, once was plenty. They’ve swapped the beer, stuck up the posters, and called it progress. You can’t paper over the cracks with slogans and hope no one notices the soul’s long gone. These days we only wander in out of habit, and every time we do, it just reminds us why we stopped. The laughter’s gone. The warmth’s gone. The locals are gone. All that’s left is a pint as flat as the atmosphere. If you want to see how to kill a good pub and still smile about it, come take notes. Otherwise, save your money, and raise a pint elsewhere to what this place used to be.

Great for a three night stay whilst helping our daughter and husband at their new house. Run and staffed by kind friendly people. Room very comfortable and clean. Excellent breakfast and also dog friendly. Parking onsite and would definitely stay here again. Andrew and Ellen

Very disappointed with the room facilities. Zero maintenance carried out in room 3. Only one of us could shower due to the flooded tray, after only a 3 minute shower. It didn’t drain Only 1 out of 4 bedside lights worked. No batteries in the remote control and when asked was told it didn’t work and to use the controls on the TV. This was difficult so asked for help and he then took the batteries out of a neighbouring room remote control and put them in ours. So it did work, not maintained! Not worth the amount we’ve paid to stay over

A perfect spot to stay if you want something genuine, honest and friendly. Great location for walks and local attractions, breakfast is a 10 out of 10 and the pub downstairs is lovely, a proper place. Staff amazing, rooms clean and comfy and free parking on site. There's also a restaurant over the road if you fancy a change. Brilliant.

What a wonderful experience it was here. Jenni the manager was very accommodating and helpful when I unexpectedly got snowed in. She couldn't have been more helpful. The rooms are modern and comfortable, and I always enjoy my stays there. Thank you Jenni for being so amazing during my stay!

Hmmm Just read a recent review and was honestly shocked to see what had been written. Always find the lads on the bar engaging and helpful, I don’t know how many different staff there are but the ones I’ve dealt with are great. I’m really sorry to hear someone felt differently

We just went for a drink and the service was really terrible. The barman was unbelievably rude. My 80yr old uncle commented that he had never been spoken to in such a rude and disrespectful way - it was truly shocking. There are three pubs in Holmesfield and the other two are better than this one!
