Had probably the worst customer service experience of my life at Wickes Woking this weekend. I picked up a pull cord light switch replacement (and a few other bits) on Friday evening, got home, then realised the packaging had already been opened and cunningly stuck back together with some tape. Obviously that made me worry it had been returned due to a fault, but with the electrician arriving 15 minutes after I got home to install it for me, I didn’t have time to go back out to Wickes to exchange it for a new unopened one. It was fitted, worked okay (it felt very cheap), then the following day I went to pull the switch and it broke. That means Wickes had indeed resold me a faulty unit. I went back on Saturday afternoon to explain the situation and ask for a replacement, but was told they couldn’t give me a new one unless I brought back the faulty one, which I couldn’t confidently uninstall as I’m not an electrician. Bear in mind that I was polite, yet the woman on the till had the audacity to more or less roll her eyes when she hit the button on her headset to speak to her manager. She literally couldn’t have cared less. So I said “fine, I’ll just buy a new one then”, I went to the aisle and it was out of stock - even though the Wickes website said 11 units were available at that store. I asked a guy to have a look out back to find one for me, and he returned 5 minutes later to say he couldn’t locate them, so I left empty handed (and incredibly annoyed). In the end, I went to Screwfix down the road and they couldn’t have been more helpful. So in short: go to Screwfix, avoid Wickes like the plague.

Shelves are usually well stocked but at times if I can’t find something staff are scarce or busy. I’ve asked at the till before but was told if it isn’t near this ( an item I was buying) we haven’t got any. Often only one till open at busy times like today, being a Saturday afternoon, causing a long queue. A smile from the staff wouldn’t go amiss either. Otherwise not a bad store, just needs a few more staff with training.
