Don't touch anything and drink a lot! Take 3 strong sleeping pills! Then maybe you won't step down prematurely. I'm not a softie, but I almost froze in the unheated room and shower. It's like I was in survival training.
After a pretty cruelling journey from the Isle of Wight I arrived to the warmest welcome. Tea was made after an easy check in... a whiskey warmly accepted. The building is full of character & characters "~) It's part dorm accommodation & social club. Food is on hand 24 hours ~ with people willing & able to cook & share... If you are looking for a quiet, pristine & sterilised environment this is not for you. If on the otherhand you wish an exciting, vibrant & colourful experience I couldn't recommend it highly enough... Thanks to the Kevins & Crew
If you value your sanity, your health, or your sense of smell, do not step foot in this hellhole. The Embassie Hostel is less a hostel and more a social experiment in human endurance. The moment I walked in, a wave of stench hit me — a toxic mix of sweat, mould, and old socks marinated in despair. The kitchen? A crime scene. Looks like there was a party in 1986 and nobody’s bothered to clean up since. There’s supposedly a “free breakfast,” but with cats crawling out of every corner and strolling across the table, it’s more like a petting zoo gone feral. No thanks. The guests — or should I say “residents of chaos” — wander around in drug-fueled trances. At 3 a.m., a man staggered into our room, sprinkled cocaine on the bed, then lay on the floor and exposed himself. I went to find staff, only to discover the “manager” sitting with seven empty cans of Carlsberg, staring into the void. The bedsheets smelled like unwashed feet and broken dreams. The bathroom had a sign begging people to close the shower curtain because “it’s deprived of water.” Whatever that means, it’s not reassuring. This place isn’t a hostel — it’s a halfway house for people society gave up on. It’s unsafe, filthy, and a genuine danger to women, students, and anyone with a pulse. Booking.com or any other platform it's using, should pull this listing immediately before someone catches something incurable.It's false advertisement even with the photos of the rooms. I fled at 3:30 a.m. and checked into the Z Hotel, where the staff were actual humans and the beds didn’t smell like regret. That’s how bad it was — I’d rather sleep on a pavement than ever set foot in the Embassie again. Women and children stay away before something really bad happens.
The photos shows in the review is not updated . Check the photos inside the review and you will know how old and dirty is the place . When I first walked in , I cannot locate reception and I saw a man in the courtyard talked to me . The check in is a computer inside the kitchen . They offer coffee at late nite like 9:30pm and I politely decline. All I wanted is a good nite sleep. The female room is on the top floor and I am thinking I won’t go downstairs until next morning . The door is quite fragile and it is not locked most of the time. The female toilet was occupied by a man for more than 20 mins. At around 11pm, there is a man coming into the room trying to organize a bed for someone . My bed has no electric outlet and I have to leave it in another bed area to charge it. In the morning , I wanted to say bye and I saw a big dog staring at me. I just left the really dirty hostel . I got a few hours of sleep and I did not border to use the shower. I am glad I just slept a few hours and then leave . I don’t know how the owner run the business but seriously he needs to do a make over of the place and people will be happier to stay there
This hostel was a huge disappointment. The owner was so kind and welcoming, which I very much appreciated, but sadly, that was the only positive aspect of my stay. The building itself was in terrible shape - extremely dirty (I literally spotted 3 spider webs) and filled with a strong, unpleasant smell. One of the biggest issues was the atmosphere. There were long-term residents who didn’t seem to care about respecting other guests, and random people were wandering around the property, which felt unsettling. The female-only bathroom was being used by men, which made me feel unsafe. On top of that, the room I stayed in was freezing cold, with no radiator available. I ended up having to use multiple sheets just to stay warm, but even those didn’t feel clean—my pillow was so dirty that I had to find a replacement myself. The whole place was extremely unhygienic and uncomfortable. They advertised breakfast, but I never saw any during my stay. Overall, the experience left me feeling uneasy and unsafe, especially as a solo female traveler. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel to anyone, and I’d urge women traveling alone to steer clear of it.
The staff are very warm and welcoming. We stayed in the double room which one very small and outdated. It wasn’t very clean. The door didn’t lock properly and the window didn’t shut. This made the room very cold. The bed was uncomfortable. The shower didn’t work. The toilet wasn’t the cleanest but not the worst I’ve seen. My friend got a shock off the light switch in the toilet! We didn’t end up staying all night due to a family emergency. We probably wouldn’t have slept much anyway due to feeling uncomfortable in the room. It’s a perfect place to stay if you need a place to crash or are a backpacker. I won’t be returning but it’s not an overall bad place. It’s just a very basic hostel.
Didn't actually get to stay as we were turned away after they took our payment as they didn't like how we we're dressed or how we looked. Staff extremely rude abusive and judgemental and refused to refund over 3 hundred pound.
Definitely worth the money paid. A wonderful atmosphere, a common room with a TV is heated by firewood, there are tables in the yard where you can eat and a kitchen to prepare food. But a bit too much different brokenness everywhere, it's part of the atmosphere, but I'd rather remove it all. The staff is simply wonderful and kind.
Not one of the better hostels, that's for sure. I stayed here three nights and it was a lot more a night than it should be! The man who runs it was nice and gave me a few pounds a night discount which was very nice of him. But the water in the shower was cold and the bathrooms were not in good condition. The place had not been updated or well cleaned in years I think!
Okay. So this needs to be made clear. This is not the place where you will find squeaky clean stuff with a staff available to serve you well like those already rich hostel chains. It is a completely different experience. You won't feel like you are alone there. The sense of community and vibe which they have built there is quite applauding. Cleanliness is not at the best definitely but definitely you will find someone to make you feel home around the living area. Only book if you are flexible and don't mind to leave out the expectations of bang-on commercial service to you. They provide breakfast stuff which is very flexible and available all around the day. The guy at the reception is there to make sure you don't miss out on a lovely stay. So be open to a new experience. You won't be disappointed.
