This is a review of the venue, not the production. Positives were the helpful venue staff. I thought the staging and accoustics were good. Negatives for me were the seating was extremely cramped, I was cheek by jowl with my neighbours. We really were shoehorned in, and it was extremely warm, no fun over the 2 and a half hours run of the performance. With no legroom, god help anyone with longer legs or a bigger bum! Also it seemed to take a while to clear the venue after the play, I'd hate to have to evacuate in an emergency. I found it pretty claustrophobic, maybe that was the idea to add atmosphere to the play! Considering the venue was purpose built, more thought should have been given to punter comfort rather than squeezing every penny out of the available space.

MACBETH: good acting and nice staging of a play I happen to like... 4* for that and the staff, BUT..... SEATING: really, really cramped. We had leg space and my dad was on the end seat, but I was practically making out with some woman's husband next to me. People behind us were cramped up and had no leg space. BAR: Dire!!! On arrival my dad had a glass of red wine vinegar and I had a glass of (marginally better) white wine vinegar. We did not bother booking for the interval and felt totally ripped off on the horrific wine. However, FREE WATER was available, which is a positive as long as you can hold your bladder and not exit the theatre.

Well organised with friendly staff. A fantastic night of world class acting in Liverpool.

MACBETH at The Depot Liverpool emerges as an utterly breathtaking production, where the venue and the cast synergize to deliver an unparalleled theatrical experience. Set within The Depot's immersive ambiance, the play achieves a hauntingly resonant quality that elevates Shakespeare's tragedy to new heights. Ralph Fiennes's portrayal of Macbeth is nothing short of masterful. His commanding presence and nuanced performance skillfully unravel the complexities of Macbeth's descent into darkness, captivating the audience with every emotional depth and conflict portrayed. Indira Varma, in the role of Lady Macbeth, delivers an equally mesmerizing performance. Her portrayal effortlessly navigates Lady Macbeth's ambition and unraveling psyche, leaving a profound impact on the audience. The exceptional chemistry between Fiennes and Varma on stage intensifies the gripping narrative, drawing the audience deeper into the tragic tale. Their remarkable performances, coupled with the immersive setting of The Depot, create an unforgettable theatrical experience. MACBETH at The Depot Liverpool stands as a testament to theatrical brilliance, with Fiennes and Varma's standout performances etching themselves as the crown jewels of this mesmerizing production.

Glad I saw this production of Macbeth - not sure the venue works or added anything that a conventional theatre couldn’t do far more comfortably. The war zone theme was a bit bolted-on and superficialβ€”and the acoustics and access were challenging imho.
